Meet Tang Shaolong

He’s the father of a two-year-old boy from Jining, China.

His son, unfortunately, wasn’t very well and require a bone marrow transplant to live.

He had tested his own bone marrow and was found to be a compatible donor.

The only thing?

He Couldn’t Afford The Transplant Operation

The operation costs 400,000 yuan (~S$80,646).

Previously, the family had paid 200,000 yuan (~S$40,323) for the boy’s medical treatment.

The family managed to borrow about 120,000 yuan (~S$24,194) from relatives but were unable to make up for the shortfall.

And that was when he came across a windfall.

A Lost Wallet

On a Friday, as Tang left the hospital to buy lunch for his son, he saw a wallet dropped on the ground.

It has 20,000 yuan (~$4,032) in cash, a driving license, several bank cards and business cards.

He was tempted to take the money, thinking that it’s God’s way of helping him since he’s strapped for cash.

“I guessed it was God, knowing I was anxious about money to save my kid’s life [and] that might be a help to me.”

But in the end, he returned the wallet.

After all, the wallet was found near the hospital and it could just be life-saving money for another person.

Introducing Ding Yilong

Turns out that the owner of the lost wallet is a vegetable grower named Ding Yilong.

Ding offered Tang a reward but was declined.

Reason being, Tang felt that it wasn’t right to take money just for returning something.

The two men kept in touch via social media where Ding later came to know about Tang’s situation.

Offer a Helping Hand

Ding wasn’t rich, nor was his business cash rich so he couldn’t give Tang the amount he needed.

But he decided to do the next best thing.

He had 200 tonnes of turnips that needed to be sold in his warehouse before May.

So he decided to gift them to Tang and sell the turnips together to raise money for his son’s surgery.

A Happy Ending

Guess what? Karma does exist because the two men managed to raise 500,000 yuan (~S$100,808) with the turnips.

And Tang was able to save his son’s life.

It was reported that the sterile isolation ward he and his son will be staying at before the transplant operation will be available in a month’s time.

The best sentence to sum this entire incident up?

Kindness beget kindness, do unto others what you hope others will do to you.
