Someone Has Really Once Sold His Kidney to Buy an iPhone

How far would you go to get yourself an iPhone? Especially when everyone in school has one?

Enough to risk your life and remove an organ?

Now, before you start saying, nah, I wouldn’t do that, a school’s pretty brutal when it comes to the who’s cooler game.

And kids, well, sometimes, they do really dumb stuff like this guy.

Man Allegedly Sold Kidney For iPhone 4

According to Oriental Daily, this man named Xiao Wang decided to do something drastic to get his hands on an iPhone 4 of his own.

Several years ago, the iPhone 4 was just released and to own one means you’re part of the popular crowd in school.

But his family was poor and couldn’t afford to get him one.

So he started thinking of fast-rich schemes.

When he heard that a human can live with only one kidney and that he can sell his kidney for money, he started thinking, I can live with that.

“One kidney is enough for me, why do I need the other one? Why don’t I just sell it?” he said.

So he did.

One Kidney For About $4,400

He asked around and managed to find a broker and an underground hospital.

For a kidney of a 17-year-old, he was quoted 22,000 yuan (~$4,400). That’s more than enough to buy an iPhone 4 for himself.

So he underwent the operation and sold his kidney away.

To His Everlasting Regret

The doctor told him he’ll recover after one week.

But he never did.

The operation room he was in wasn’t sanitised properly and his wound got infected.

His parents only knew what he did when he fell terribly ill from the infection.

When he was admitted to a proper hospital, it was too late and his kidney function was affected severely by the infection.

And ever since then, he’s not able to lead a normal life and spent most of his time lying on the bed instead.

His family had an even harder time financially, having to support his haemodialysis.

While his family managed to get a hefty compensation from the broker and underground hospital in court, they would rather have his healthy body back.
