Sniffing your own socks may sound disgusting but admit it, we’ve done it at least once or twice in our lives.
I mean, sometimes, you just need to judge for yourself if you’ve got smelly feet, right?

Right?
Okay, fine, maybe to check if you can still wear your socks the next day.
Well, whichever it is, if you have the habit of sniffing your own socks, it might be a good time to stop doing that.
Now.
Because one guy did it so much he allegedly ended up with a lung infection. Read on.
Man Has The Habit of Sniffing His Own Smelly Socks
It was reported that a 37-year-old man in Fujian, China named Peng admitted himself into the hospital because he was suffering from a nasty cough and chest pains.
When he was at the hospital, he confessed to the doctor that he has the weird habit of constantly sniffing his socks throughout the day.
They realised that his lungs have gotten a fungal infection.

A fungus had developed on his feet, and when he sniffed at his socks, the fungal spores made their way into his lungs.
But That’s Not The Only Reason Behind The Lung Infection
The patient could have been suffering from a weaker immune system too.
According to Dr Mai Zhuangyin, the patient was looking after his child and did not have enough rest at home.
And the lack of sleep could’ve led to a weaker immune system.
Which is why, if you don’t sleep enough every night, you’re probably suffering constantly from flu or other common ailments.

Thankfully, the patient was treated for the infection and is recovering nicely.
It was speculated that the habit of sniffing at his socks could be a way for Peng to calm himself down after a long day of work.
Moral of the Story: Change Your Socks Daily
No sniffing of socks, no wearing the same socks day after day.
Your feet are contained in an enclosed space for the most part of the day. And the reason we wear socks is to soak up all the sweat that’ll accumulate within your shoes.
Fungus love warm, moist environment, and both of your shoes have in spades.

So imagine if you wear the same socks over and over again, what’s going to happen?
A lung infection, which is pretty unlikely. Or worst, Hong Kong foot or foot rot, both of which will never go away without spending a bomb.
All you NSmen should be familiar with that, right?
