2021 has been pretty… dull.
The glint of light at the end of the tunnel keeps going out when we get to it, leaving us in total darkness.
Reader: Man, you’re doing a great job of cheering me up.
It’s not all bad though!
While we may not have any fireworks in Marina Bay this year to celebrate the end of this awful and forgettable year, there will be something in store to light up our nights this month.
Marina Bay Waterfront Having IG-Worthy Rainbow Light Shows Until End of 2021
The Urban Development Authority has announced that they’re putting up four light installations to ring out the old year.
The creative installations will light up the Marina Bay waterfront promenade until the end of December.
The first, and perhaps the most beautiful of the displays, is the treetop canopy, suffused by a kaleidoscope of colours.
Expect to see this beautiful pathway lined with influencers every night.
Next, we have an “abstract clockface projection display”, which “showcases the community’s New Year wishes”.
There’s also an immersive projection of a galaxy of stars onto treetops, just in case you can’t see the stars in the night sky.
And a collection of lighted inflatable bird structures as well.
URA said these installations add festive cheer to Marina Bay, and embody the spirit of creativity and hopefulness.
They will be on display from 8pm to 10.30pm nightly for the rest of December, with extended display times on 31 December.

No Marina Bay Fireworks
For the second year in a row, there will be no fireworks at Marina Bay to usher in the New Year.
Instead, they will be set off at heartland locations around the country, in a bid to prevent crowding amidst the pandemic.
But there will be something perhaps equally visually stunning.
Shine a Light Display
In addition to the installations, URA is organising a Shine a Light show, a gorgeous display of 60 light beams in a circular formation, projected from The Promontory.
“These represent strength in diversity as we rally around one another to navigate the pandemic, and shine the spotlight on frontline workers, ground-up groups, as well as charities meeting needs within our communities during these difficult times,” URA said.
