A simple bowl of noodles turned into a recipe for disaster at Marsiling Mall’s hawker centre.

Two men got into a violent altercation on Tuesday (27 May) evening around 8pm, leaving blood splattered across the floor like a crime scene from a Channel 8 drama.

When Noodles and Tempers Collide

Ms Fu (name transliterated from Mandarin), 52, spotted the aftermath while passing through the hawker centre. She noticed large bloodstains near a noodle stall and alerted Shin Min Daily News.

A nearby stallholder, Ms Weng (name transliterated from Mandarin), was serving customers when she heard people screaming outside. She looked up to see two men throwing punches.

“A young man was hitting another guy repeatedly. He looked really fierce,” she said.

Another female vendor witnessed the entire incident unfold. She was preparing food when a man in red walked to a noodle stall to buy food. At the same time, a younger man carrying a bowl of freshly purchased noodles headed toward a table.

The two men bumped into each other lightly. The noodle buyer said nothing and walked away to find a seat. But the man in red wasn’t having it. He started complaining non-stop, gesturing wildly with his hands.

The vendor couldn’t make out his exact words, but he ranted for at least two minutes. The noodle buyer eventually stood up and stared him down with hands on his hips.

Suddenly, the younger man threw a punch at the red-shirted man’s face, knocking him to the ground. The victim clutched his forehead as blood flowed.

Parents, Police, and Paper Towels

The injured man’s parents were eating nearby when the fight broke out. His mother screamed for the violence to stop and rushed to protect her son.

Other diners quickly stepped in to break up the fight. They pulled the attacker away and helped the bleeding man to his feet. Stallholders handed over tissue paper to stop the bleeding.

According to vendors, the attacker is a regular customer who’s usually quiet. Nobody expected such an explosive reaction from him.

The Singapore Police Force confirmed the incident. A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital while conscious. Officers arrested a 30-year-old man. Investigations are ongoing.

One stallholder reflected on the incident: “The hot weather lately makes people irritable. Coming out to eat should be enjoyable. This wasn’t some deep grudge, everyone should just stay calm.”

Well, maybe they should head to the stadium that’s just next to the hawker centre to run and relax instead.
