Yes, you might not have to go out as much anymore, but Singaporeans being Singaporeans, you just have to collect free stuff.
For those who have yet to collect their free masks, I’ve got some great news for you.
You’re now given another week grace before this opportunity is taken away…forever.
Collection of Free Masks Extended for 1 More Week in 15 Shopping Malls
On 27 Sep 2021, Ho Ching, who previously made headlines for asking Singaporeans to “stop throwing tantrums like kids”, has more to say to people in Singapore.
And this time, it’s something good.
According to her post, households has one more week to collect free masks at 15 participating Capitaland Malls in Singapore.
All you have to do is to go to the mall’s information counter with your SP residential water and utility bills.
You should also bring your own bag as no bags will be provided at the collection points.
Do note, however, that the free mask collection is no longer available at supermarkets because they are gearing up for their own events now.
1.1 Million Households Already Collected So Far
According to her post, over 1.1 million households have already collected their free masks, as of Sunday, 26 Sep 2021.
That’s nearly 85 million masks, she added.
Each household is supposed to have:
- 50 pieces of pleated design surgical masks; either in one box (50) or two boxes (25 each)
- 25 pieces of hospital grade N95 masks in one box
Over 90% of Each Age Group Vaccinated
Other than masks, Ho Ching also shared a bit more about the COVID-19 situation in Singapore.
According to her post, over 90% of each eligible age group has been vaccinated.
She urged Singaporeans to be patient, pointing out that every day, a “few hundred” older folks are coming forward for their first jab.
By the end of 2021, she pointed out, another 40,000 to 80,000 of Singapore’s elderly above 60 years old will be vaccinated.
Older folks who already had their first two doses are coming forward for the booster shot as well, she said.
While some have asked for vaccination to be made mandatory, Ho Ching pointed out that Singapore has done well in getting over 90% vaccination rate among teenagers and adults “without coercion”.
She gave an optimistic estimate, saying it’ll take another “two to four months” for the rest to “come along”.
Tapping The Brakes
Unless you’re a robot, you would’ve been somewhat affected by the rapid stream of new measures in recent weeks.
This is a necessary move, Ho Ching says, and it’s “stupid” not to tap on the brakes when the situation calls for it.
Compared to what some industries are going through, and what we went through last year, this is a “minor sacrifice”.
For those who are angry, be patient; and if you need to, channel that angst and anger into helping others instead of focusing on the inconvenience to ourselves.
