Twenty-five couples tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony held at the Lenggong parliamentary constituency in Perak on 25 May 2025.
All couples were seated on the bridal dais and celebrated the occasion together.
One couple, however, stood out among the many happy pairs: Rapeah Sani, 70, and her 47-year-old neighbour, Mohd Shaiful Nizam Yeop Mat Isa.

From “Mak Ngah” to “Sayang”: A Neighbour’s Love Story
Rapeah, now in her third marriage, never expected to wed again at 70. Initially, she was surprised when Shaiful Nizam, 47, began developing romantic feelings for her — but eventually accepted it as fate.
Shaiful, experiencing his first marriage, had returned to Lenggong and become Rapeah’s neighbour.
“I feel truly grateful,” Shaiful told reporters. “Our homes are close to each other, and she often cooked for me.”
As their relationship grew, Rapeah regularly prepared meals for him.
“I used to call her ‘Mak Ngah’, but now I call her sayang,” he added.
Officials Promote Mass Weddings as Tourism Draw
The ceremony was attended by several high-profile figures, including Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, who posted a short clip of the event on his Facebook page.
Deputy Home Minister and Lenggong MP Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, along with former Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, were also present.
Deputy Minister Shamsul Anuar noted that similar mass wedding events have been held in previous years, with the aim of turning them into a tourism attraction for Lenggong.

This year’s date, 25 May 2025, was chosen for its memorable number pattern.
