By now, even if you stay in Tampines, you’d have known about the massive fire that happened yesterday at Jalan Buroh.

According to more eyewitnesses, people could see the smoke from as far out as Sengkang, which is almost at the other end of Singapore.

Yesterday evening at 7:30 p.m., the fire was under control and by 11:15 p.m., SCDF informed the public through the SGSecure app that the fire was completely extinguished, but people are still advised to stay clear of the area.

Lest you can’t read:

[Final Update: Fire @ No. 43 Jalan Buroh]

At about 5.10pm this evening, SCDF responded to a fire at No. 43 Jalan Buroh. Upon arrival, the fire engulfed a Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) facility about two football fields in size.

The fire, which involved hundreds of highly flammable LPG cylinders of various sizes, spread rapidly. SCDF immediately deployed its resources around the affected area to contain the fire. Firefighters faced intense heat amidst exploding LPG cylinders while preventing the fire from spreading to larger LPG storage tanks nearby.

Despite the challenges involved, firefighters persevered and fought the blaze into the night.

A total of 35 emergency vehicles and about 120 firefighters were deployed. At the height of the firefighting operations, seven water jets, including an Unmanned Firefighting Machine, were used to mitigate the fire. The fire was under control at 7.30pm.

SCDF conveyed two casualties to Singapore General Hospital. A body was found and pronounced dead at the scene by a SCDF paramedic.

The cause of fire is under investigation.

The location of the fire houses Summit Gas Systems, a subsidiary of Union Energy Corporation, which distributes LPG cylinders to residential and commercial customers.

It’s those cylinders that some people use for gas in their kitchen, and suffice to say, they’re very flammable since their primary function is to create fire.

A 43-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic while two other men, aged 29 and 45, were taken to Singapore General Hospital for burn injuries.

Union Energy Corporation has refused to comment, and the fire is still under investigation.

Unsung Heroes Fighting Fire

The commander of the 4th SCDF Division said that the fire was intense.

Here’s him giving a live update on the SCDF Facebook Page:

“Our priority when we arrived was to contain the fire and prevent further spread, and to protect the two long LPG bullet tanks, each about 60 tonnes in size,” he said.

For your info, 60 tonnes are 60,000kg.

It’s the largest LPG fire that SCDF has to fight, for it spanned to two football fields with multiple loud explosions. 120 firefighters and 35 vehicles were involved in the operation.

Whatever it is, the unsung heroes have saved both lives and properties, if not the consequences would have been more serious.
