What’s sweet + sweet?
It’s sweet popcorn + caramel.
And if you’ve a sweet tooth and love McDonald’s array of desserts including their McFlurry, then this would be sugar to your tongue.
Because while KFC has come out with the calorie-filled Mac ’N Cheese Zinger, McDonald’s isn’t losing out: they’ve come out with the equally sinful Popcorn Caramel ice-cream.
And boy do they look yellow (kind of reminds you of salted egg yolk loaded fries, no?):
Yeah, they come in soft serve cones, Hot Fudge Sundae and McFlurry.
We’ve not tried it before, and since we’re one of those who were traumatised by the Golden Arches’ last yellow seasonal new item, we’ve decided not to risk our calories on this and instead search for reviews online to copy and paste let you decide if it’s worth the calories and the dollars.
And here’s one from Hardwarezone forums, and given that he or she or it isn’t a food blogger, we’re inclined to think that it’s as impartial as it can get.
Here’s a concise account of the review:
“Texture wise, I felt that the popcorn caramel soft serve has a slightly creamier and more luscious mouthfeel, compared to the regular vanilla cone. On the palate, faint but pleasant notes of caramel – think the syrupy kind used copiously in dessert drinks, linger. However, it was missing the buttery aroma of popcorn, something I was looking rather forward to. The usual blend of Oreo cookies in the McFlurry added another dimension of textures to the $3 dessert, but it’s not something I would crave immensely for. Perhaps adding bits of actual popcorn into the mix would do the dessert more justice.”
Wah, nice England—basically, the reviewer says that it’s like those sugary ice-cream that tastes a little more like caramel lah.
And there’s not a single trace of popcorn, so McDonald’s has committed the sin of naming something that’s unrelated again.
Here’s a real-life image of how it looks like:
And interestingly enough, many of the other forumers said it looked like…
…which, come to think of it, is pretty much true.
This dessert is only available in McDonald’s dessert kiosks, so if you’re at an outlet that has no dessert kiosk, then too bad: go buy some popcorn and Wall’s ice-cream from NTUC FairPrice and make it yourself at home.
