With the Mid-Autumn Festival, it’s safe to say many Singaporeans who celebrate the festival have had their refrigerators stocked full of different types of mooncakes.
It’s impossible to just want to buy one type, as mooncakes now come in so many flavours – milk tea, pure chocolate, alcohol, and even durians.

Sadly, some mooncake enthusiasts here found themselves struck down by the very delicacy they only get to enjoy once a year.
Some People Who Ate Mdm Ling Bakery Mooncakes Got Food Poisoning
It’s the saddest thing in the world to hear that the things you love sometimes have the power to hurt you the most.
On 1 October, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) released a statement announcing that they would be recalling Mdm Ling Bakery’s Mao Shan Wang snowskin mooncakes.
And for good reason, as there were 23 reported cases of food poisoning linked to the consumption of these very mooncakes here in five separate incidents.
All of them reported symptoms of gastroenteritis infection, with one person hospitalised from the illness, who has since recovered.
Others also recovered after either self-medicating, outpatient treatment, or on their own.
Mdm Ling Bakery, who imported the mooncakes from Malaysia, will need to halt the importing and sale of the affected product with immediate effect under SFA guidelines.

They were sold at various outlets in Singapore, including NTUC Fairprice.
Consumers who have already purchased the mooncakes are also advised not to consume them – but those who already have and are concerned about their health should seek medical advice, the SFA said.
Mdm Ling Bakery Apologises On Facebook
On the same day of the announcement, Mdm Ling Bakery took to their Facebook page to extend their apologies to customers and stakeholders affected by the recall of their durian mooncakes.
They reassured customers that quality control is of utmost importance to them, and that they have been in talks with their supplier to get to the bottom of the matter.

“We would like to assure everyone that we treat all matters relating to food safety standards very seriously,” the bakery added.
Customers who have been affected were also contacted by their management to provide assistance.
