Mediacorp has officially launched 987 STAR, a new talent competition aimed at discovering Singapore’s next big media personality, with auditions running until 27 April 2025.
The competition seeks to find “an all-rounded media sensation with a standout voice, captivating charm, and a flair for social media content creation,” according to the announcement made yesterday (1 April 2025).
Eligibility and Application Process
Hosted by 987 DJs Sonia Chew and Joakim Gomez, the contest targets Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 18 to 28 who believe they have what it takes to become the next entertainment sensation.

Interested individuals can submit their entries via mediacorp.sg/987star by uploading a video introducing themselves and explaining why they have what it takes to be a 987 Star.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified by 28 April 2025.
Competition Structure
Shortlisted contestants will participate in a boot camp led by Mediacorp 987 personalities and industry experts.
The boot camp will focus on developing skills in hosting, content creation, public speaking, and personal branding.
Participants will face various challenges designed to showcase their charisma, creativity, and audience engagement abilities.
Grand Finale and Prizes
The competition will culminate in an “Ultimate Showdown” – a live finale at 313@Somerset on 31 May 2025, where the top five contestants will compete for the grand prize.
The winner will receive a S$5,000 cash prize and a contract with Mediacorp 987, potentially launching their career in the entertainment industry.
Past Success Stories
This talent search follows in the footsteps of previous successful Mediacorp talent discovery programs, including Star Search, which returned in 2024 after a five-year hiatus.

Star Search, which began in 1988, has been instrumental in launching the careers of many well-known media personalities in Singapore.
The 987 STAR competition has already produced several successful winners in past editions, including current 987 DJs Sonia Chew, Kimberly Wang, and Ann Nicole.
Other notable past participants include Germaine Tan, who was the second runner-up and now hosts “The Down Low” on Mediacorp 987, and Natasha Faisal, the first runner-up who currently hosts “Lunchbox” on weekdays.
The competition content will be available for viewing on Mediacorp 987’s TikTok, Mediacorp Entertainment on YouTube, and Mediacorp’s digital streaming platform mewatch.
This talent search is part of Mediacorp’s ongoing efforts to nurture local talent, similar to their year-end countdown show “Let’s Celebrate 2025”, which featured performances by homegrown artists like Regina Song, Taufik Batisah, Tasha Low, Shigga Shay, and Iman Fandi.
