And one Mercedes driver might not have got the memo, because he or she just reversed into burning candles and this happened:

According to the image from Facebook Page Singapore Road Accident, the car prefix is SME, which means the car is only registered in July 2018.

Netizens speculated that based on the “small” burn, the driver might’ve seen the fire after parking the car and immediately doused it, though it was a tad too late.

The location of the incident isn’t revealed, but here’s a question in your mind now: won’t the reverse sensor pick up the candles?

Parking Sensors

Known officially as parking sensors, this godsend technology for some drivers isn’t the same for every car. Depending on your vehicle type, there might be more sensors, but some cars would just have two sensors at the back to detect walls or large objects behind.

Usually, it won’t detect anything below the car because how the heck would the car know whether it’s a kerb or even the road? The constant beeping can be a pain in the butt.

Usually, if there are more sensors at the back, it’d be located at the corners instead so the reversing vehicle won’t hit the vehicles parked at the side.

So to sum it up, the answer is no: it’s rather difficult to detect the candles, if not it’d have detected the grass, too.

SCDF’s Advisory

With more people burning offerings now, the Singapore Civil Defence Force has come out to remind members of the public about fire safety tips during this month.

One of which is to avoid placing burning joss sticks or candles on grass patches or fields.

If not, ensure that the fire is gone before leaving. You won’t want to burn the wrong Mercedes.
