Michelle Chia Passive Aggressively Tells Off Netizen Who Accused Her of Attending Illegal 5-Person Gathering

These days we’ve gotten so used to groups after groups of people breaking safe distancing measures that our automatic response to seeing a 5-person gathering is probably: Hey, they’re breaking safe-distancing measures!

It’s probably slipped our minds that there’s still the possibility of only one or two people being guests, while the rest are all residents of the unit.

This unfortunately happened to one netizen, who found themselves on the receiving end of Michelle Chia’s ire after what they probably thought was an act of vigilantism.

Michelle Chia Tells Off Netizen Who Accused Her of Breaking Safe Distancing Measures

On Sunday (13 June), Singaporean actress Michelle Chia reposted an Instagram story from popular Singaporean-based actor and TV host, Pornsak.

The story in question depicted both Chia and Pornsak, along with three other friends, gathered at a place of residence for a meal. Celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee was included in the group of friends.

Coincidentally, 13 June was also the last day of Singapore’s Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), where a gathering was restricted to only 2 pax.

This is probably why, when a netizen saw the story, his first reaction was to question why a five-person gathering was taking place on that day. Reposting the Instagram story, the netizen questioned: “Why 23hrs ago they can have more than 5 pax gathering?”

If the netizen was expecting to bring the actress trouble, he or she certainly thought wrong.

In another Instagram story in which she reposted the netizen’s story, Chia rebuffed the netizen’s accusation with a short and blunt explanation. “Because only Pornsak and I were guests. The rest are residents of the unit. Thank you for your ‘kind concern,'” she wrote in the captions.

Oh, I am just enjoying the sarcasm oozing from those quotation marks.

The actress was not done with her passive-aggressive onslaught against the netizen, however, as she posted a subsequent Instagram story with a message in Chinese.

“If you’re so free, go and do something useful. Get the situation clear first, before spreading rumours,” she wrote sharply in her message.

She continued, “Otherwise, you’ll be making a fool and a laughing stock of yourself.” She concluded strongly, taking the opportunity to slightly mock the netizen.

“But if you can only find joy in such things [being an online vigilante], we’ll take it as a charity case, and provide you with some happiness. Have a good life!” she wrote.

Ouch. She certainly doesn’t go easy on her punches, does she?

Moral of the story: not everyone is a Jeffrey Xu.
