After she bagged a Best Actress award at the Oscars earlier this year, Michelle Yeoh has been called Malaysia’s pride and labelled a legend.
Deserving, we think, given that she’s the first Asian woman to win the prestigious acting award for her role as Evelyn Wang in the mind-blowing movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Michelle Yeoh was recently spotted back in her home country, Malaysia, to visit her family and also to attend to other affairs, such as meeting with the Malaysian PM.
Here’s what the Malaysian icon has been up to when revisiting her home country.
Michelle Yeoh Recently Met With Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim
One of the things that Michelle Yeoh had on her schedule upon arriving in Malaysia was to catch up with newly appointed Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim.
The latter was clearly proud of the star as he posted about the meeting on his Facebook page.
Writing in Malay, he called Michelle Yeoh a “cultural figure and artist” and said that he was proud that her achievements “raised the country’s name on the international stage”. It seems as if the duo also chatted about Michelle Yeoh’s career as she shared “the joys and sorrows of [her life’s] journey”.
A queen, we think.
Perhaps one thing that Asian parents will take away from this high praise from PM Anwar Ibrahim is that acting is a feasible job for their children. Who knows, they might encourage their children to pursue acting instead of their long-standing favourite occupations of doctors, lawyers and, more recently, software engineers.

Michelle Yeoh Was Also Back in Malaysia Recently for Qing Ming Festival
Michelle Yeoh had also been in Malaysia to spend time with her family and fans.
Her return to Malaysia coincided with the annual Qing Ming Festival. The Qing Ming Festival is also known as the Tomb Sweeping Festival, where ethnic Chinese typically return to their ancestral tombs to pay respects to their ancestors. Rituals often include visiting and cleaning the tombs or graves of departed relatives. It usually falls around April each year.
When Michelle Yeoh returned to Malaysia, she brought her Oscar along with her to show her mother, who resides in Ipoh. She also did not forget to share her joy with her late father, bringing the trophy to his grave together with offerings.

Some photos shared on Michelle Yeoh’s Instagram account showed her mother holding the beloved trophy, nicknamed “Mr.O”, and a photo of the trophy with her father’s grave as a blurry backdrop.
