Tragedy always seems to befall those who already have a hard time in life.
While many of us reside comfortably in our middle-class bubble, those who are less fortunate are forced to toil away just to feed their families.
And when something happens to these workers, their families have to struggle to survive.
Migrant Worker Falls To His Death At Shaw Plaza in Balestier Road
A migrant worker fell to his death on Thursday (Nov 14) while carrying out housekeeping works at a building along Balestier Road.
According to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the Indian national fell through a partition board, falling from level 1 to basement 1 at 360 Balestier Road, Shaw Plaza. You can view the photos here.
The 30-year-old was employed by Express 21, a company that works on electrical engineering and structured cabling projects for buildings.
Still alive when paramedics arrivedÂ
According to Mothership, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that the worker was still alive when they arrived at the scene and was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital soon after.
Unfortunately, the worker later succumbed to his injuries.
MOM said that investigations are ongoing and all work at the worksite has been stopped.
A funeral was held for the migrant worker, though its details are uncertain.
Fewer workers have died from falls
The number of workers who died as a result of a fall from height declined from 24 in 2009 to eight last year, reported Straits Times.
Different measures have also been introduced, including the use of technology to handle high-risk tasks.
That might seem like a positive statistic, but even one death is one too many.
Second migrant worker death in two weeksÂ
Moreover, this is the second time a migrant worker has died during construction work in just two weeks.
On Nov 4, 28-year-old Velmurugan Muthian died following a construction crane collapsing at a Novena construction site.
The Indian national was the sole breadwinner of his family and his wife was expecting their first child.
