The coronavirus clearly doesn’t want us to be happy in life.

Pseudo-scientists in the Goody Feed office noticed that COVID-19 works a little harder at these particular times:

  1. Shortly after travel bubbles are announced
  2. Just before festive occasions come around

Yes, whether it’s flying abroad or celebrating annual festivals, the coronavirus will do everything in its power to prevent it from happening.

And since it worked rather hard in the last two months, it may end up succeeding after all.

Minister Urges People to Stay Home Even If They’ve Taken Leave for a Long Weekend

Took leave today (14 May) so you could spend the long weekend out with friends or visiting your relatives for Hari Raya?

Well, one minister thinks you shouldn’t.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli urged residents to stay at home over the next few days.

The minister noted that the 24 community cases reported yesterday were the highest daily tally since July last year.

As a result, Mr Masagos urged people to reconsider their plans to go out or visit relatives, even if they’ve taken leave for a long weekend.

“I urge everyone to reconsider your plans given the latest development. Do try to stay at home and go out only if really necessary,” he said.
“As much as possible, try to connect with one another through online platforms. If you do need to be outside, do observe seriously the safe management measures.”
Earlier this week, Education Minister Lawrence Wong said that Singapore is on a “knife-edge”, and that community cases could go either way over the next few weeks.
Mr Masagos shared this sentiment, saying that the situation is still in our hands, and that drastic steps might have to be taken if we aren’t cautious.
So, is it really as bad as the authorities are making it out to be?
In a word, yes.

Community Cases on the Rise

24 new community infections were reported yesterday, of whom 19 were linked to the Changi Airport cluster.
The airport cluster is now our largest active cluster with 46 cases.
Overall, the number of new community cases has increased from 48 in the week before to 71 in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also gone up from 7 in the week before to 15 in the past week.
So, unless we want to deal with another circuit breaker, we should heed Mr Masagos’ words and stay at home.
