It’s not often that you see a nearly nude man on national television in Singapore.
So, when a extremely muscular man wearing nothing but a zebra print speedo popped up in people’s homes in 2007 in an advertisement, people certainly took notice.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, maybe this will spark your memory:
Yes, I’m talking about the Mocca Man.
In the ad, the Mocca Man who’s selling his home shows viewers around his beautiful home all while striking distinctly unnecessary poses.
Perhaps the most amusing moment is when he encourages viewers to check out his “matching pipes”.
If a real estate agent showed you a home in this manner you might be inclined to call the police.
But the ad that featured the swole beefcake was promoting Mocca – Mediacorp’s online classifieds website at that time.
Mocca no longer exists, but 14 years later, the Mocca Man is still around, and his six packs are bulging harder than ever.
Man Who Appeared in Mocca Ad in 2007 is Back for Another Ad & He Still Has His Six Pack
After 14 years away from the spotlight, the Mocca man suddenly emerged in another ad, this time put up by 99.co, a property portal.
Looking as swole as ever, the Mocca man listed the benefits of using 99.co while striking poses once again. This time, a healthy dose of puns was added to the mix.
Born in Vietnam, Has Lived in Singapore for 20 Years
According to AsiaOne, the beefcake in the two videos is Ha Thanh Quang, better known as Ben Ha.
He was born and raised in a village in Tien Giang, and has been living in Singapore for almost 20 years.
He was studying Japanese Studies at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, but dropped out after winning a hotel management scholarship to study in Singapore in 2001.
When the ad was broadcast, Ha achieved instant fame.
People on the trains and buses would go up to him asking, “Are you the Mocca man?” This happened so frequently that he had to wear a cap so people wouldn’t recognise him.
His popularity didn’t exactly help him rake in dolla dolla bills though, as he was once offered just $60 to appear on a popular local TV show at the height of his fame.
“The taxi fare from my home and back was not enough to cover,” he said.
Besides that, he has received many appearance requests from event companies. Now, Ha works in the hospitality line, and has been since 2014.
