Memes are a great way to spread joy and make light of a situation regardless of how much the world seems to be constantly burning with hate. However, for memes to succeed, they have to be both funny and relatable to people of all generations.
It seems that this latest meme by the Ministry of Health (MOH) is a hit but only for the baby boomers, who pronounce memes as “me me”.
MOH Posts Meme That Netizens Think Only Boomers Will Understand
In light of the recent change in COVID-19 regulations once again, five people from the same household are able to dine out. If you were to dine out with your friends, you can only dine out in pairs.
They will also be checking for proof of residence through NRIC or the Singpass app. Children without these forms of identification can be allowed entry based on the declaration of their place of residence.
MOH has taken this opportunity to flex its ability to create memes for they’ve produced a meme only boomers understand:
The meme features a Singaporean sitcom that was popular in the 90s, Under One Roof, and an American sitcom, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. that is still being rewatched worldwide to date.
Although F.R.I.E.N.D.S. was also produced in the 90s, many millennials and Gen Z recognise the show due to its reruns ever since it stopped in 2004. It’s like Rachel and Ross “break” kept repeating annually.
As for Under One Roof, the show only peaked while new episodes were released live in the 90s.
Long before your time, in the Southern province of China, memes were still not a thing and the world does revolve around people sticking their heads in their phones. Some might even call it the simpler times.
Considering how Under One Roof’s target audience were adults over a certain age, that means people who can actually relate to this meme may not even see this meme.
Boomers Meme
This caused various younger netizens to be confused instead.
On Facebook, a netizen called the creation a “Memes that Boomers can understand”, while on Reddit, a user describe the meme to be the result of an underpaid social media intern being forced to revive some old boomer supervisor’s “hideous brainchild” to life.
Various other users on Reddit also describe the situation to be the result of a savage intern or an intern that may soon be called in for a meeting.
Regardless of how the meme seemed to have gone over the heads of various netizens, there’s one thing the cats here at Goody Feed would agree: this meme seemed to be more relateable for the younger generations:
