MOH Responds to Claims That Singapore Sports School Student Dies Due to COVID-19 Vaccine

If you have read the newspapers recently, you may know of the young sporting talent whose life was abruptly cut short after he felt unwell in school.

The young student, who was only 14 years old, was studying at the Singapore Sports School.

Secondary 2 student Pranav Madhaik’s death was then somehow linked to COVID-19 vaccines.

Given the grave nature of this allegation linking a young death to a vaccination, which can help to reduce the pandemic’s footprint in Singapore, the Ministry of Health responded quickly to quash the rumours.

They deny the linkage between the two events.

Young Student Dies After Fitness Time Trial at Singapore Sports School

Earlier this month, a young sporting talent, Pranav Madhaik died after he felt unwell during a fitness time trial.

The 14-year-old was studying at the Singapore Sports School when the tragedy occurred.

According to the school’s press release, the young boy had completed a 400m fitness time trial at around 1826hrs on 5 October 2023.

He then told his badminton coach he felt unwell, who told him to rest.

The student rested while the coach worked on some time trial data on his phone before leaving to brief other students.

The coach then left the school.

At around 1840hrs, a Track and Field coach noticed Pranav at the side of the track and asked if he was fine.

However, it seems that by then, Pranav was weak and later had difficulty getting up.

He was sent to hospital by ambulance and warded before he passed away on 11 October 2023.

The cause of death was cardiac arrest with antecedent cause of congenital malformation of coronary vessels.

Ministry of Health Denies That COVID-19 Vaccination Was the Cause of Death

While this seems like an unfortunate accident due to the oversight of some sporting coaches, people have been trying to link this incident to COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has since stepped up to say that the rumours suggesting the young boy’s death was linked to his vaccination are “untrue and irresponsible “.

According to MOH and reported by Channel News Asia, the student had “received his last dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine more than 18 months ago”.

It was also “highly irresponsible” to link cardiac arrest and COVID-19 vaccinations as “about 60 strokes and heart attacks happen every day”.

Good thing that’s put to rest then, we can’t have the anti-vaxxers spreading fake news about such things.
