Remember Huawei’s S$54 smartphone promotion disaster? I’m sure those of you who queued up must be simmering with rage at the mere mention of that deal.

Well, Huawei never meant to hurt you. Huawei wants you to know that you will always be in Huawei’s heart.

Huawei wants to make things right, the Huawei way.

S$100 discount vouchers

The Chinese tech giant has begun giving out S$100 discount vouchers via SMS to 5,000 customers here who queued up but were not able to get the S$54 phone.

Back then, elderly Singaporeans from all over the country queued up with eager faces only to learn that the smartphones were sold out within hours minutes seconds of the first day of what was supposed to be a three-day promotion.

2,000 customers have already received their discount vouchers and the rest can expect to get theirs by the end of August.

These vouchers are valid for a week from the day they are sent and can be redeemed at any of 10 selected outlets.

1,000 customers have already redeemed their vouchers.

What can you use the S$100 voucher for?

Customers can use their vouchers for the Y6 Pro, P30 Pro, P30 and P30 Lite.

If you use your voucher to purchase the Y6 Pro, you would only have to pay S$48, as its current retail price is S$148.

So, maybe this whole debacle was worth it. You managed to shave 6 dollars off the already discounted S$54 price. Stage a few more public outcries if you want a further discount; just don’t say we say one.

To avoid this, however, Huawei has controlled the number of vouchers sent out per day.

To redeem your voucher, you simply have to present the SMS, your NRIC, and a QR code generated from a link in the SMS.

Then, you can finally get your hands on that elusive smartphone.

Courts feel bad too

Customers who queued for the unattainable S$54 Huawei phone in Courts stores also received S$100 vouchers to purchase Huawei devices.

Courts’ deal is separate from Huawei’s, however.

It is valid until Aug 31 and can only be redeemed at its Tampines outlet (yes, that super big one that’s next to IKEA).

After their S$54 smartphone promotion debacle, Huawei had certainly lost the support and trust of the public, who felt deceived. This gesture of goodwill will definitely appease upset customers and regain a little public trust.

I mean, look at the guy in the featured image. He’s so happy with his Huawei phone while wearing a Samsung T-shirt!
