In an unexpected turn of events, the mother of alleged StanChart bank robber David James Roach speaks out about her son’s arrest, and said that she was “shocked” to hear the news.
She did not know of her 26-year-old son’s arrest until a reporter from Shin Min Daily News informed her of it at about 5am yesterday.
Roach’s mother, who declined to be named, told Shin Min that the last time she saw her son was in August last year – after which he went travelling abroad with friends.
This was what she had to say to her son: “Please tell him, we miss him, we are worried about him and we love him.”
She also told Shin Min that despite his alleged crimes, she would be getting a lawyer for him.
Parents; always got your backs.
Roach was suspected to have robbed the Holland Village StanChart branch of $30,000 last Thursday.
He then left Singapore for Bangkok, but was arrested in Bangkok three days later.
A female friend, who was Roach’s travelling companion for three months, also reacted with disbelief.
The Canadian woman, who did not give her name, travelled with Roach for almost three months in Turkey and Iran. They also went on a trip to Nepal this year.
She told Shin Min she could not believe that Roach had committed a robbery.
