A woman walking along a slip road connecting the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) to the Central Expressway (CTE) was rescued by a motorcyclist on 7 Apr 2025, after causing traffic to slow down during the potentially dangerous situation.
Quick-Thinking Rider Offers Help on PIE-CTE Junction
The incident occurred around 4:47pm as traffic built up on the PIE towards the CTE in the direction of Ang Mo Kio. Motorcyclist Vaune Phan, riding her Suzuki DR200 scrambler, noticed the congestion ahead.
“A lady was standing right in the middle of the expressway, swaying left and right,” Phan told The Straits Times. “Cars, lorries, vans – they were all trying to pass her without hitting her. It was so dangerous.”

The woman, believed to be in her early 40s, was walking with her back to oncoming traffic on a narrow stretch of road without a shoulder for emergency stops.
She appeared disoriented and unsteady, prompting Phan to take immediate action.
Phan, a social media influencer known in Singapore’s motorcycling community, quickly signalled to a nearby car driver to help hold traffic before carefully approaching the woman.
“I rolled up next to her and asked, ‘Hey… are you all right?'” Phan recounted. The woman responded in Mandarin, saying, “I’m tired. I’m really very tired.”
Rescue and Police Assistance on Braddell Road
Concerned for the woman’s safety, Phan offered her a ride to somewhere safer.
“Okay, don’t worry, I’m here. I will help you, okay? Let me give you a lift – we go somewhere safer to talk,” Phan told the woman.
To her surprise, the woman accepted the offer and climbed onto the pillion seat of the motorcycle.
“I gently held her hands and said, ‘Don’t worry, trust me, everything’s going to be okay.’ She then leaned her head on the back of my shoulder,” Phan shared.

Phan took the nearest exit at Braddell Road. Soon after exiting the highway, she spotted a police car and immediately approached the officers for assistance.
“We stopped safely at a nearby car park where I helped the lady off my motorcycle before leaving her in the police’s good hands,” Phan explained.
During a brief conversation to calm the woman down, Phan learned that she hadn’t eaten or drunk anything the whole day. The police bought the woman some orange juice.
The entire rescue was captured on a driver’s dashcam. The footage was later uploaded to the Facebook page SG Road Vigilante (SGRV) and has gained more than 596,000 views

Online commenters praised Phan’s actions, with one user, Ray Han, writing, “You’ve got a big heart. We can learn from you.” Another user, Kah Hin, noted, “So many vehicles passed by, only the motorcycle stops and helps.”
Reflecting on the incident, Phan expressed gratitude that everyone was safe. “I’m just very grateful that she’s okay,” she said. “Let’s always try to be kind – you never know who might need help.”
