If you’re a new driver or rider, you’ve probably been given one important piece of advice repeatedly from your uncles and aunties:

Reader: Only signal just before changing lanes so the driver on your side can’t speed up? Yup, I’m glad they told me that.

What? No, not that. You shouldn’t be doing that anyway!

Reader: Look out for TP officers before using the bus lane?

I’m guessing you’re a horrible driver.

Reader: You are correct.

I’m talking about keeping your eyes on the road.

As a motorist, taking your eyes off the road for even a second can put you or those around you in great danger.

Don’t believe me? Have a look at this waving motorcyclist.

Motorcyclist Ended Up Ramming into Car As He Was Waving to Someone Else

A motorcyclist who waved to a driver on the road ended up slamming into a car in front of him.

A video of the incident was shared on the Facebook page Beh Chia Lor.

According to Beh Chia Lor, the incident occurred along Old Tampines Road on 8 Oct 2020.

The video, which was taken from a dashboard camera, begins with a biker with a blue helmet riding on the leftmost lane on Old Tampines Road.

4 seconds into the video, a white car on the rightmost lane passes the motorcyclist.

For some unknown reason, the motorcyclist turns his head and waves to the passing car on the right.

Unbeknownst to him, the car in front of him had braked while his head was turned.

When he turned his attention back to the road, the rider realised that the car ahead of him had braked, but it was too late. He ended up ramming into the car’s rear, causing his motorcycle to flip over.

Fortunately, the rider managed to get back on his feet.

Waving to a Friend, or Giving a Warning?

The original poster of the video speculated that the rider was waving to a friend of his on the other side of the road.

There’s no evidence to support this claim, however.

Conversely, the motorcyclist could have been warning the driver of the white car about something.

As some drivers know, motorcyclists often gesture to drivers to signal that something is wrong, whether it be a punctured tyre or a damaged headlight.

Netizens’ Reactions

In any case, the biker’s one little wave may end up costing him thousands of dollars in repairs, as parts of his bike broke off after the impact.

Surprisingly, some netizens defended the biker, questioning why the car in front of him stopped all of a sudden.

Either way, as this incident proves, it’s always dangerous to take your eyes off the road, no matter how noble your intentions are.
