Train doors are closing…cue the alarm sounds before the train doors close.
These reminders may seem unnecessary for those who take trains regularly, as it’s common sense to steer clear of the train doors while they open and close.
However, even though most people know that train doors have the potential to be dangerous, some people still place their hands on the train doors to steady themselves in a moving train.
This can prove dangerous, as one woman fractured two fingers due to this act.
Here is what happened to her.
Woman Placed Hand on Train Door for Balance
Towards the end of last month, a tragic accident occurred in an MRT train in the evening, around 7.35 pm.
This accident involved Ms Goh, who is 48 years old.
She spoke to Zaobao about her accident, recounting how she was going home from work when she placed her left hand on the train door for support while the train was moving.
The train was packed, and Ms Goh had no choice but to stand near the door.
She had boarded the train at Bugis and was headed towards Pasir Ris.
Her Hand Was Caught in the Door Gap and She Fractured Two Fingers
While it seemed like a good idea to hold something for support, Ms Goh’s finger was unexpectedly ‘rolled’ into the gap between the sliding door and the side of the train when the train door opened.
When the accident occurred, she started screaming loudly. However, by the time she reacted, both her little and ring finger on the left hand had been rolled into the gap.
Both fingers were fractured due to the freak accident.
Ms Goh reveals that other passengers reacted upon hearing her screams, with about three or four hands reaching out to help push the door in the opposite direction to slow its movement.
Other passengers held on to her arm so that other fingers would not be rolled into the gap.
Someone pressed the emergency button on the train, and it stopped immediately. The staff quickly arrived at the scene and brought Ms Goh to their office to treat the wound.

Ms Goh then went to the hospital on her own to receive proper treatment.
After this encounter, Ms Goh shared that she was thankful for the passers-by who reacted to the accident and would no longer hold the door for support. She also encourages others not to do the same, lest their hands get caught.
