Losing a parent is hard, but when it’s the other way around, the level of grief is unexplainable.
And it’s even harder when one isn’t expecting it.
Losing His Son
That’s the awful reality for Mohd Taqwa Ismail, a Sungai Tong Health Clinic ambulance driver in Terengganu, Malaysia. The 49-year-old father was called for duty on 6 Nov (Sun), at around 4pm in response to an emergency call regarding a traffic collision.
The accident site was in front of a palm oil mill, at KM38 Jalan Kuala Terengganku-Kota Baru. Taqwa was requested to pick up and deliver the victim’s body to Seitu Hospital.
But as soon as he arrived at the scene of the collision, the sensation of dread intensified when he recognized the victim’s motorbike and realized something terrible had happened to his family.
The motorcycle had, in fact, belonged to Muhammad Aiman, his 21-year-old son.
Aiman, a landscaper working for Taman Tamadan Islam (TTI) for just five months, was injured in the collision with a truck.
In an interview later with News Straits Times, Taqwa described how the whole ordeal was tremendously heartbreaking, and that only “Allah knows the sorrow I felt at the time”.

Collision Explained
Aiman had suffered severe brain injuries in the collision, according to Seitu Police Commander Deputy Superintendent Afandi Hussin, who reported the death at the site.
He added that at the time of the collision, the victim was traveling from Kuala Nerus to his residence in Sungai Tong. According to the reports, Aiman, who was riding a Honda EX5, attempted to pass another car and collided with a truck that was traveling the other way.
Unlike Aiman, the truck driver remained unharmed throughout the accident.
Currently, the case remains to open as authorities are still looking into the incident for causing a fatality by careless or hazardous driving in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
Remaining Vigilant on the Road As It’s the Rainy Season Now
Although what happened was undoubtedly unfortunate, the rest of us should take steps to stay safe on the roadways.
Singapore has already seen its wettest October in four decades. The first part of November is expected to see more rainy weather ahead. That means drivers should be more careful whilst riding on wet roads.
Road users are reminded and urged to maintain their vigilance when driving and to watch out for blind zones, especially when riding a motorcycle.
