Fresh Grad Called Arrogant After Demanding That Boss Answers His Question First While Applying for Job

In a job interview, you have to present the best version of yourself to stand a chance of getting hired.

So, even if you typically bathe once every fortnight and have potato chip crumbs all over your shirt every day, you must shower and put on a fresh and ironed shirt that day.

You also have to be pleasant and cordial, because no one wants to hire a jerk.

Not everyone got this memo, however.

Fresh Grad’s Job Application Goes Viral

Screenshots of a conversation between a job applicant and a co-founder of a company have gone viral due to the applicant’s very questionable strategy in a bid to get himself hired.

The screenshots were shared in a Facebook post on 26 June by Facebook user Hara Lee, who claims to be the sister of the co-founder of the company the fresh grad was applying to.

The interaction starts off like any other, with the applicant asking for details on the remuneration and working arrangement after indicating an interest in the company’s Senior Content Creator position, as any would-be employee would.

In response, the co-founder asks for the applicant’s CV and portfolio, as any employer would.

The applicant explains that he doesn’t have a portfolio at the moment, because he only recently graduated from university. So, he offers an “FYP” up to his possibly-future-employer instead.

“Can you elaborate what FYP means?” The co-founder asked.

The applicant replies that it stands for “Final Year Project”, which he needed to complete in order to get his degree.

He even touted his grade of 92%, saying “it’s good”. Wow, flex.

But this is when things take a left turn.

“Did You Go to University?”

Instead of waiting for the man’s response, the applicant then asks the man “Did you go to university?”

Probably (very validly) confused and slightly irritated, the co-founder asks the applicant where he got his number from.

The applicant’s response, which is a textbook example of what you shouldn’t do in a job interview, is the reason their conversation went viral:

“Can answer my first question please, I want to see if this job meet my expectation or not.”

Yes, in a job application where he couldn’t submit a resume or portfolio, this person, fresh out of university, wants to see if the job meets his expectation.

Unsurprisingly, the co-founder was not too keen on hiring him.

He then ends the conversation in the same fashion, with a nonplussed “Kthx”.

Looks like he can kiss that job goodbye.

Netizens Think Applicant is “Arrogant”

Netizens in Malaysia were certainly amused by the exchange, with some of them labelling the applicant “arrogant”.

Surprisingly, some defended the applicant, saying the co-founder was rude as well.

One thing’s for sure though: unless you’re applying for the position of a roast comic, being rude in a job interview is never a good idea.
