Birthdays. What’s not to like?

You can eat cake and hang out with your friends while receiving well-wishes from others.

That is if you’re not afraid of getting older.

In some cases, birthday celebrations can even bring two parties closer together.

That happened between the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Malaysia’s Department of Immigration (DOI) when the latter celebrated Singapore’s birthday.

Here is what the celebration was about.

Malaysia’s Department of Immigration Celebrated Singapore’s Birthday With a Cake for ICA

Malaysia’s DOI celebrated our Little Red Dot’s 58th birthday with a cute cake for the ICA.

In a Facebook post by UKK BSI (which stands for Unit Komunikasi & Korporat Bangunan Sultan Iskandar), Malaysia showed how it celebrated Singapore’s birthday.

The post’s caption read that a cake was handed to the ICA “in conjunction with the 58th Singapore National Day Celebration”.

The post also featured an elaboration of the scenario behind this cake presentation.

The cake was provided by Mrs Vimala, the Sultan Iskandar Building’s Deputy Chief of Immigration, to Deputy Commander Woodlands Tong Weijie at Woodlands Checkpoint.

This cake symbolized the country’s hope that both parties jointly protect the main entrance between Singapore and Malaysia.

What a kind gesture, indeed. Especially since a Malaysian helicopter flew so closely to Singapore territory that two fighter jets had to be scrambled to battle the “risk”.

Thankfully nothing sinister came out of that incident. It was only a civilian helicopter registered in Malaysia, not a military aircraft.

The Cake Was Red and White and Featured Iconic Landmarks From Singapore

You can refer to the picture below for those curious about how the cake looked.

In an image attached to the Facebook post, the cake appeared to be a large rectangular cake with white frosting and red borders.

A “Happy National Day Singapore August 9” was printed on the cake in the middle of the cake.

The image also featured the Singapore flag as a ribbon and iconic local landmarks such as the Marina Bay Sands, Merlion and the Central Business District (CBD) skyline.

The cake also had some fireworks and gold stars as decorations.

What a cute cake.

Perhaps, Singapore will have no choice but to reciprocate Malaysia’s goodwill when their Independence Day comes around at the end of the month, on 31 August.

Let’s stay tuned to see if the ICA returns the favour of a cake to Malaysia’s DOI.
