I can feel a bunch of you shifting your eyes to the side.

Safe to say, I think we’ve all been guilty of leaving our phones to charge past their battery life.

Why use the word guilty?

Studies have actually shown several negative effects of overcharging our phones and the benefits of multiple, short charging sessions.

Because long story short: things can explode. Especially if you cheapo and buy third-party charger / cable / whatever.

Burning Phone

For all of us who believe overcharging is a myth, please take a moment to read this.

An article from World of Buzz shows Facebook user Jessie Ooi sharing on Info Berita Semasa her close call with a burning phone.

She shared that while she woke up upon hearing a pop sound only to find that her curtain and pillow were on fire.

Jessie quickly turned off the switch connected to her charging device and threw her phone on the floor.

Unfortunately for the rest of the house, the fire caused smoke to spread.

Jessie was saved by her younger sibling who heard her scream when the incident occurred.

Much to our relief, she no one was harmed during the entire ordeal but was definitely left mentally scarred by what happened.

As a final warning, Jessie shares that overcharging your phone could lead to consequences such as this.

To make it extra safe, try to use official phone chargers as much as possible to reduce the risk of accidents as well.

Long story short: some chargers give out too much voltage for your phone and may short circuit or damage it in the long run.

To be safe, I advise this for not just your phones but possibly laptops and portable chargers as well.

Take care of your devices, everyone. It could save you money for a replacement and any other potential damages that come with it.
