I remember when I used to be skinnier.
Those halcyon days where I could just eat seemingly infinite amounts of food and not grow fat with minimal exercise.
And then puberty turned off and I got complacent.
Losing weight might seem like a chore to some, and change is always pretty hard to come when we’re so used to a lifestyle.
But perhaps if you’re as determined as Deepan Kanagendran, there is perhaps light at the end of the tunnel.
Determination
Because I’m almost certain that’s what the D in Deepan stands for.
On January 2013, the 33-year-old Malaysian man decided to go on a massive weight loss journey. At the time, he was a whopping 134kg!
The picture below shows Deepan before his weight loss regime.
According to World of Buzz, Deepan shared that he had tried to go gyming on several occasions, but the travel time to the gym made him complacent.
However, his late father, who was a hockey player and marathon runner, inspired him to begin a healthier lifestyle.
“I decided one fine day with the dumbbells I had at home to do a home workout. It was only 10kg dumbells and a simple basic body workout.”
When Deepan saw that this produced results after the initial two weeks, he kept his head high and continued his regime.
Within six months, he had already slimmed down so much he could already wear S-sized shirts, a drastic difference from only wearing XXL ones.
Look at the guy post-workout, them guns on his arms.
By December 2013, the guy weight only 59kg! That’s over half his previous weight!
I give this guy mad respect.
Not The End
That was six years ago, so you must be wondering if Deepan is still continuing this lifestyle.
Well, he still is! As of today, he still maintains a solid 64kg.
He claimed that working out is now habitual and that he feels strange if he doesn’t do it for at least 20 minutes per day.

“Future goals is always to maintain a balanced work-life and workout consistently as health & fitness is important. Must practice it constantly.”
“I make sure to consistently check out Youtube videos to learn several home techniques and ask some of my friends who workout actively.”
He does empathise with those of us with a lazy bone or two, especially when coming back home from a day of school or work.
However, some YouTube and his favourite music and Deepan would be ready to get back on his feet to exercise.
And I know by this point of the article you guys will be asking, “But what does the man eat though?”
Don’t worry I think with my stomach too.
Deepan says that he tends to cut down on rice while loading up more on meats and vegetables.
He also advises eating more during the day and less at night. There’s a pretty good reason why he does this too.
It’s never too late to start, guys and girls. You don’t need a fancy gym membership or cool equipment, you just got to stay determined and push through like Deepan.
Maybe I should start too (after I go home and finish my nasi goreng of course).
