M’sian Mum Jumps Off Building In Front Of Her Kids; Netizens Help Pay For Funeral

A netizen named Heidy Quah took to Facebook to raise funds to help pay for a funeral. She had witnessed the suicide first hand.

On 19 October, Heidy Quah posted on Facebook asking for donations. She explained that she doesn’t normally do this, however, a suicide case changed her mind.

Quah had met the women on the streets of Malaysia.

After hearing about her struggles with her abusive husband and her life, Quah convinced her to move to Refuge for the Refugees’ office momentarily.

Unfortunately, the situation did not get better and her marriage failed. She also had mounting debts from her failed relationship and the emotional stress from her husband leaving her for someone else.

To make things worse, she had to care for her four children all by herself, aged 21, 17, 10 and 3 years old who are stateless and have no relatives.

The Incident

On that fateful day, Quah paid the mother a visit at the apartment she was residing in. There, she told Quah that she “can no longer go on”.

Quah realised then that she could no longer care for her family and was going through a lot of pain.

However, she still managed to smile for the camera and they took a selfie together before Quah left.

As Quah was leaving the apartment, the woman walked her to the door, climbed over the fence and jumped off.

Her kids watched as she committed suicide and ended her life.

Quah said that her suicide was “sudden and desperate” and that her “screams were still ringing in her ears”.

Quah Helped To Raise Money For The Funeral

Quah was aware that the children would not have enough money to pay for the funeral. Hence, she raised RM5,500 (~S1,790) in a span of just 24 hours to help.

The money also helped to pay for the kids’ expenses for a few months. The eldest child has stepped up to care for the younger siblings.
