M’sian Singer Hospitalised For Eating Durian & Spicy Food Together, Had Her Actions Called ‘Stupid’

The Internet has introduced many weird things to us.

One of is Goody Feed, the platform that shouldn’t have existed in the first place.

And the second is the weird food combination challenge, which, as the name suggests, challenges people to eat weird food combinations.

These include a peanut butter and pickle sandwich, ice cream and fries (that is goody, though), and durian with spicy noodles.

One Malaysian artist found that out the hard way.

Challenge with her friends

Singer Ara Johari took on the durian with spicy noodles challenge but the only thing she ended up with was a trip to the hospital.

In a video posted on her Instagram account, the singer is seen eating the weird mixture as part of a challenge with her friends.

However, just after a few bites, Ara started to feel nauseous and later threw up into a plastic bag.

Towards the end of the video, an ambulance can be seen arriving, suggesting the singer had to be taken to the hospital.

“Morons”

Netizens heavily condemned the act and criticized the singer for promoting dangerous behaviour. This is a valid concern, considering the star has over 600,000 Instagram followers.

Famous actress Nabila Huda thought Ara’s actions were “stupid” and called those who started the challenge “morons”.

Singer’s response

According to CNALifestyle, Ara has responded to Nabila’s comment, assuring Nabila of her well-being. She added, “I hope no one tries to follow this challenge because it really isn’t for everyone”.

Ara explained that she likely fell sick because she ate the mixture on an empty stomach. She went to the doctor for a checkup and was fine.

The instigator of this dangerous challenge, YouTuber Nikocado Avocado, ate four packs of spicy Korean noodles with durians. Unlike Ara, he remained unharmed, which may have encouraged many others to try the challenge too.

Online affirmation

However, there is a larger concern here, which is the things people will do for online affirmation.

Ara is just one of many online stars who have taken up dangerous challenges for likes on social media.

One example is the #inmyfeelings challenge, which involved jumping out of a moving car while listening to a Drake song.

Another was the famous Cinnamon challenge, where people dared each other to swallow a tablespoon of cinnamon in under 60 seconds without vomiting or inhaling the powder. This is extremely dangerous because it can lead to choking, breathing difficulties, and even a risk of a collapsed lung.

Celebrities like Ara should be aware that many of their fans look up to them and often try to replicate them.

A few likes on Instagram is nice, but not if it comes at the expense of your safety.

Plus, how could you desecrate the heavenly taste of durian with some spicy, processed noodles?
