It’s that time of the year again and the school holidays have started both in Singapore and in our neighbouring country, Malaysia.

So to all the youths out there, what do you do to celebrate?

Perhaps a family trip somewhere?

Perhaps a fun-filled adventure with your friends?

Perhaps just chilling at home?

Or perhaps bury yourself into work?

Whatever it is, it probably is pretty tame, nothing much like what a few Malaysian students have done.

According to We Are Malaysians Facebook page, a group of students from a religious school in Kelantan had a different way of showing their joy of the school holidays starting.

They decided that their school holidays should start with a bang, so that’s what they did.

They threw their school’s plastic chairs on the ground.

Best Way Of Celebrating? “Destroying School Property”

The translation of the post reads:

“Thursday yesterday was the last day of school for schools that have Friday off. Students of a religious school in Kelantan showed their excitement by destroying school property. Who is to blame, the parents or the teachers that educate them?”

The person filming the destruction can also be heard egging his friends on, telling them “Yes, good, keep breaking them!”

The Aftermath

You might be excited that you’re going to finally have a break for one and a half months, but there’s surely a better way to celebrate that, right? What good does it bring to destroy school property? What did those chairs ever do to you?

After creating such a mess, I don’t think they cleaned it up either and just left instead. In the end, the cleaning attendants of the school are the ones who would have to clean up after them. Disposing of these plastic chairs also contributes to more plastic waste. This is highly inconsiderate on so many levels.

Hopefully, the school authorities will take note of these students and take the necessary actions to punish them for their unruly behaviour.
