That’s what my father once said to me while we were watching a football match. I was rather confused at the time, considering I was only seven years old and our fridge wasn’t even malfunctioning. For decades I’ve been trying to decode this cryptic advice, and then I came across an article that explained everything in an instant:

Twitter user TehOiah (@ohhjiaa) recently took to Twitter to rant about an incident involving her housemate and a predatory fridge repairman.

The housemate happened to be home alone, and the fridge repairman came over to, well, repair their fridge.

After carrying out some minor checks, the middle-aged man then sat on the floor, saying he had to wait to see if the fridge would get cold.

Well, I’m not a fridge expert, but that seems pretty reasonabl-

He then pulled out his phone and started watching a porn video with the volume turned up.

Ah, why am I not surprised. 

That’s bad enough, but the creepy middle-aged man went even further, as TehOaih describes:

“This guy was casually watching porn while fixing the fridge in my house. My housemate was alone at home, and he did this in front of her while trying to have a crude conversation with her.”

Yes, while he was watching porn on his phone in front of the housemate, he started asking her questions about her sex life.

“He asked if my housemate had had sex before. What was her first time like? He was also telling her about his first time with his wife”, TehOaih said.

She added that the repairman was in the house for two hours, but he didn’t even fix their fridge and continued to talk about sex with the housemate.

So, not only is he a predatory creep, but he’s also an incompetent repairman.

Thankfully, the repairman didn’t physically harm the housemate, though I’m sure she would have been scarred and disgusted by the incident.

Indifferent agent

The housemate, understandably, decided to tell the real estate agent who ran the house and hired the repairman about his unprofessional behaviour.

Sadly, this agent was rather indifferent to the housemate’s complaint.

Quoting Frozen at an incredibly inappropriate time, the agent asked the housemate to let it go because he didn’t kacau (disturb) her. I can only assume that the agent is implying that it’s ok because the agent didn’t physically assault her.

Sexual harrasment can also be verbal, dear agent.

We can only hope that the technician will be punished for his unprofessional behaviour before he asks someone else about their sex life instead of repairing their fridge.
