A Singaporean man has been charged with murder, following a knife attack at Block 323 Yishun Central that left a mother of two dead on 24 Sep 2025, reported The Straits Times.
The attack occurred in the corridor outside a sixth-floor HDB flat, around 7:25am.
Police responded to reports of violence and found three individuals injured: the accused, the victim, and the victim’s husband. All were taken to the hospital.
Details of the Attack
Preliminary investigations suggest the violence stemmed from a noise dispute between neighbours.
During the altercation, a 66-year-old man, identified as Koh Ah Hwee, allegedly stabbed Nguyen Phuong Tra, a 30-year-old Vietnamese national, in the chest with a knife.
Ms Nguyen was found unconscious and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Her husband, 33, also sustained injuries. Witnesses told reporters they were awakened by shouting and saw the woman lying on the ground, bleeding. The husband was seen trying to confront the attacker before also being hurt.
The deceased, Ms Nguyen Phuong Tra, was reportedly the mother of two children.
Legal Proceedings
Authorities arrested Koh Ah Hwee at the scene. Due to his injuries, charges were formally brought against him in his hospital bed, with a magistrate attending to process the charge.
He faces the capital charge of murder under Singapore law. If convicted, he could be sentenced to death.
The case is scheduled for a further court mention on 2 Oct 2025. Investigations are ongoing, and police have interviewed neighbours and examined bloodstains found in the corridor.
Block History and Community Response
Residents of Block 323 told the media the ongoing noise disputes had previously led to mediation attempts involving local authorities.
Nee Soon GRC MP Jackson Lam acknowledged that noise issues in the block had been persistent, despite intervention. The attack occurred after a string of disagreements reportedly unresolved through earlier efforts.
