Digital Lock Company Offered $2,000 Reward to Anyone Who Can Recover Their Stolen Van; 18YO Later Arrested

Before the internet popped into our lives and changed it forever, getting the word around was no easy task.

If you lost a certain prized possession, for instance, you’d have to print and put up flyers all across the country, or put an advertisement in a newspaper.

Nowadays, all you have to do is go on a social media platform, tap your thumbs a few dozen times, and thousands or even millions of netizens will soon know about your dilemma.

When this happens, your chances of finding your lost possession increase exponentially, especially if you offer an attractive reward.

Digital Lock Company Offered $2,000 Reward to Anyone Who Can Recover Their Stolen Van

On 24 May, My Digital Lock Pte Ltd made a public appeal for help on their Facebook page after their van was stolen from their industrial office in Yishun.

In their post, they claimed that two suspects were caught “hacking” their van on a CCTV before driving away with it.

The incident took place at 10:15pm on 23 May at North Point BizHub, they said.

“We have made a police report.”

They appealed for information about the suspects who stole their van and offered a $2,000 reward for anyone able to find the perpetrators.

Even with the aid of CCTV footage, the company couldn’t identify the suspects, as they were wearing a mask.

Always protect yourself from COVID-19, even when committing motor vehicle theft.

After some netizens voiced their suspicions over the incident, the company maintained that it wasn’t a marketing gimmick.

My Digital Lock also told Mothership that it was the first time something like this had happened to them.

Due to the lack of transport, the theft forced them to postpone their installation appointments for the rest of the week.

Fortunately, one resident helped to find their stolen vehicle.

Van Recovered, 18YO Arrested

Just a day after the theft, officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) arrested an 18-year old man in relation to the case.

SPF said they were alerted to the theft at around 9:00am on 24 May. Police investigations are still ongoing.

In a follow-up post, the company said that a member of the public, who wanted to remain anonymous, helped the company and police find the perpetrator.

As promised, he was rewarded with $2,000 by the company. Yay, everyone wins!

“After a long chase from morning till evening, we finally caught them,” the company said, adding that they would not have been able to catch the suspect without the help of the police and the “brave warrior”.
