Going into the town area and central business district of Singapore, you find an amazing variety of places.
From clothing to food, there’s a lot of things to discover.
And another amazing thing is how expensive some of them are.
This is why local celebrity Mark Lee’s opening of a certain dim sum stall might just change that.
Mark Lee Opens Popular M’sia Dim Sum Stall in Orchard Food Court; Said to have been around for over 60 Yrs
He’s had plenty of experience in this industry as well.
The actor actually owns the chicken rice chain 13 Stages and was also responsible for bringing Old Town White Coffee to Singapore.
In his latest venture saw him open an outlet for Nam Heong at the Food Republic in 313@Somerset Mall, 8days reported.
Or rather we should say reopen, but we’ll get to that in a second.
The popular Ipoh casual dining chain sells a range of dim sum, chee cheong fun and noodle dishes at affordable prices, and opens from 10am to 10pm daily.
It’s also been around for a whopping 60 years!
How It Got Started
Currently, the chain has around 15 different outlets across Malaysia.
So how did it get here?
Lee said after some time since he brought old Old Town White Coffee over, Nam Heong actually approached him and asked if he was interested to bring the chain to Singapore.
And the rest is as you see right now.
In fact, it actually opened back in 2019 but took a break during the circuit breaker until June 2020.
Lee told 8days that opening in a food court was much less costly, from renovations all the way to equipment.
However, he does entertain the idea of a standalone stall if they do earn more money.
The possibility of opening another stall in a second food court also exists, possibly at places like Ion Orchard.
Sneak Peek At The Menu
You don’t even need to go down to their store to see the menus, since they have them on their Facebook.
And the selection of dim sum is quite wide!
Items can be as cheap as $1.50 for their Ipoh Kaya Puff to between $3 to $4 range with their Radish Cake, Superb Siew Mai, Chicken Glutinous Rice and Crispy Shrimp Dumplings.
But remember it’s not just dim sum, and that they have a variety of chee cheong fun and noodle dishes too!
Some standouts include their Prawn Mee, which has both a smaller variant for $4.20 and its normal size for $5.50 and their various types of chee cheong fun for under $4.
You can find the stall at the following address: Food Republic Stall 23, #05-01/02/03 313@Somerset, 313 Orchard Rd, S238895.
