Malaysian rapper Namewee announced on Facebook on 17 Nov that he has lost the sponsor for his Chinese New Year song for the Year of the Horse in 2026. The 42-year-old, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, revealed that all his work scheduled till the end of 2026 has been cancelled.
This follows the ongoing investigation into Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh’s death, which was reclassified as murder from sudden death. Namewee was released on bail on 13 Nov, nine days after he was taken into remand, and remains out on bail till 26 Nov.
In his 17 Nov Facebook post, Namewee said the case is still under review with the report yet to be released. He added that it will take several months to get a result.
Namewee Publicly Seeks Sponsors and Job Opportunities
Namewee is now publicly seeking sponsors for his Chinese New Year song, which has already been written. He promised sponsors a free advertisement and confirmed that the song contains no vulgarities.
The rapper offered a refund of half the amount if the music video does not reach 10 million views before Chinese New Year. He also promised a full refund if he “got into trouble” again before Chinese New Year.
The Malaysian artist is also seeking behind-the-scenes work in the entertainment industry. Anyone with work can contact him, and the fee is negotiable.
If there are no opportunities in entertainment, Namewee said he is willing to venture into other fields. He offered his services, saying he could fry chicken cutlets, fry rice, cook curry, wash pots, and even install iron bars on windows.
He said he was willing to learn anything he did not know, as long as he could earn some income.
Background on Investigation and Recent Developments
Namewee previously turned himself in to the police. He was being investigated in relation to Hsieh’s death.
On 16 Nov, Iris Hsieh’s body was cremated in Malaysia. Her parents were unable to attend but appointed a lawyer and representatives to handle her funeral.
