If you read news from international outlets, you’re probably familiar with Al Jazeera.
Al Jazeera is a one of the largest news organisations in the world, covering everything from news in the Middle East to Covid-19 vaccines and Donald Trump.
It claims to be an independent organisation, but a certain popular blogger has recently called that into question, after they made an accusation they perhaps shouldn’t have.
Nas Daily Called a News Media Fake News After They Said He’s an Israeli Agent
Unless you’ve just discovered Facebook, you probably recognise this man:
Yes, this is Nas Daily, a popular blogger who used to post 1-minute videos of his travels on Facebook focused on other people and their lives.
And with over 15 million followers, it’s not an understatement to say he’s pretty damn popular.
Last year, Nas moved to sunny Singapore to start the Nas Daily Media Company.
While some might attribute this move to a desire to have more Chendol and bubble tea, Al Jazeera says Nas, whose actual name is Nuseir Yassin, is actually an Israeli agent.
Last Wednesday, Nas uploaded a video slamming the Qatari news channel for the accusations.
“Oh my god… I can’t believe this is happening to us! This is fake news targeted at us by a government,” he said.
In his video, Nas claims that Al Jazeera deliberately spread fake news about him and his company, and shared images and clips from the news network to back up his claims.
So, what did they accuse him of?
Essentially, it’s that Nas Academy, Nas’ new company, is “training people to love Israel”.
And Al Jazeera wasn’t even subtle with these accusations: in an Al Jazeera clip shared by Nas, an “expert” who’s speaking in Arabic claims that Nas is an Israeli propagandist:
“He’s using all the tools the Israeli government provides him and he is part of their official propaganda programme”.
In response, Nas says that Al Jazeera is actually a government news organisation, like China’s CCTV or UK’s BBC, and not a wholly independent one.
A quick google search shows that he may be right.
“In reality, Nas Academy is a great new startup that we started to create more creators! To teach people how to make videos. To teach people how to tell stories, so they go and create their own videos and become their own Nas Daily. That is the truth!” he said.
He also claims that Al Jazeera paid its affiliates and other news channels to spread the “fake news” about Nas, to “generate hate and fear”.
He gave the example of one news network that shared Al Jazeera’s video and garnered 2 million views, a significant increase from the average of 30,000 viewers the page usually receives.
Duplicity in Delivering News
Nas also accused Al Jazeera of being duplicitous when it comes to delivering the news.
“If you don’t speak Arabic, you will never notice these stuff. But it’s been happening for decades in the Middle East.”
He claims that English speakers are told one story, while the Arab world is told another.
“To the English speaking world they say, ‘Let’s remember the Holocaust and never repeat it’. To the Arab world they say, ‘Did the Holocaust really happen?’. To the English world they support gay rights. To the Arab world they suppress gay rights! It’s two stories for two different audiences.”
Nas claims that this sensationalist journalism is one of the reasons the Middle East is ” full of hatred and anger”.
The 28-year-old vlogger urged his viewers to show him support, saying that Al Jazeera has unlimited money and power.
“It’s time to hold people accountable,” he said.
