Do you love to travel? Well, you can’t now because of COVID-19. So if you’re a travel blogger, you can now only write about your trip from your living room to your room.
Because according to the travel advisory by MOH, “Essential travel for business, official and work purposes will continue to be permitted under Green/Fast Lane arrangements and the Periodic Commuting Arrangement. Singaporeans and residents of Singapore are advised to defer all other forms of travel overseas. When overseas, travellers should take all necessary precautions, observe good personal hygiene, monitor local developments, and heed the advice of local authorities.”
In other words, don’t travel.
But what if you’re a wanderluster who’s not travelled for a whopping 4 months? That’s hell on Earth, right?
And so, someone travelled and isn’t too happy that she’s to be quarantined in a hotel after she came back.
But first…can travel meh?
Travel Advisory, Not Travel Ban
The outbound travel advisory is an…advisory. If you still want to travel out of Singapore, you can still do so if you have a place to head to.
But there are consequences if you travel and come back.
Firstly, if you’ve left Singapore after 27 March 2020 onwards, you’d have to stay in a dedicated SHN facility for 14 days and also go for a COVID-19 test when you come back to Singapore. You’d have to pay for all these expenses, from the SHN stay, which is usually a hotel, and the cost of the test. In total, it can go above $2,000.
And if you’re tested positive for COVID-19, you’d have to pay for all COVID-19 treatment in cold, hard cash—there won’t be any subsidies, and you can’t even claim a single cent from your insurer.
The whole idea is, of course, to discourage travelling.
So, who’s the someone?
Alyne Tamir, Nas Daily’s Girlfriend
Actually, it doesn’t seem to be just her: Nas Daily, whose real name is Nuseir Yassin, and their bff, Project Nightfall’s Agon Hare, appeared to have travelled with her, too.
The country they went to?
The Maldives.
The Maldives is one of the few countries in the world that has opened its borders since 15 July 2020 to tourists because unlike other countries, most people stay in the resorts without interacting with the locals.
It currently has 6,911 confirmed cases and 28 deaths.
So you thought they’ve flattened the curve, which explains why they’re opening up?
Well, not exactly:
But still, the country with a population of 400,000 could no longer take the economic hit, as tourists generated about 60% of foreign income. Given its dependence on tourists, it was then projected that the country would be the worst-hit country in Asia economically.
And the reopening is rather…hassle-free.
There’s no quarantine and a free 30-day, on-arrival visa.
The only difference between travelling to the country in August 2019 and August 2020? The cheaper air tickets (of course) and a health declaration form.
Reader Bao: So it’s much cheaper now?
No, it’s more expensive because there are limited flights.
So, our dear Alyne, whose online handle is really Dear Alyne, announced on 13 August that they’ve headed to Maldives.
Simply put, she said that after “a 4 months Corona-coaster of anger, acceptance, depression, and happiness, I was SO HAPPY the second I heard the Maldives was open! I knew I wanted to go. AND GO WE DID!”
Nice?
And of course she’s to post a video about her trip, because if it’s not online, it’s not happened.
The country EVERYONE can visit?! (Yes, even us 🇺🇸!)
We all want to travel. But we can't! 🙅🏽♀️UNTIL NOW!This country is OPEN. It has built in social distancing, no quarantine, and…well, IT'S GORGEOUS.What country is it? In it, she explained why the country was able to open up as they’d all restricted in an island, so it’s “safe”.
She then gave her opinions about travelling during this period, and shockingly said she hated COVID-19.
COVID-19: That’s surprising. I thought everyone loves me.
And because we need to take care of our mental health too, she is taking care of hers by travelling and therefore helping the tourism industry in that country.
Dee Kosh, I hope you’re reading this. Must remember to give sincere opinions.
But you’re not here to watch her video.
You’re here for the second part of the headline…
Not Happy to Do SHN in a Hotel When She’s Back
Unless you live in a cave, you’d know that Nas Daily has set up a company right here in Singapore, and his girlfriend is of course one of his co-workers.
Maybe Ryan and Sylvia would have some opinions about this, but let’s move on.
As mentioned, when anyone who disregards the travel advisory return to Singapore, he or she would have to do an SHN in a hotel for 14 days and do a COVID-19 test—even if you’re Nas Daily or the Prime Minister of Singapore (which is why they did a Crash Landing on You scene when our PM met up with his Malaysia counterpart at the causeway)
And so, Alyne is no exception, but she has an opinion.
She might have tested negative for the COVID-19 test, but like any other people, she’d still have to be isolated.
And because she appears to stay in a hotel near where she lives, she said on Instagram that it’s “2 weeks of unnecessary government mandated Quarantine across the street from my house almost over”.
She also claimed “government make sense” in another post:
Lest you can’t read: “So even though I have a negative covid test and my empty house is right there…I still have to stay in the hotel all 14 days. Because government make sense.”
I think she’s praising the Government?
I don’t know about you, but all of a sudden, I can hear Lawrence Wong whispering this in my ears: “You should grasp the spirit of the rules and to take precautions.”
She then continued with her opinions, in which when someone appeared to say that “they (Government) want money for the hotel LOL,” she replied:
“EXACTLY HAHAH. Take the money and let me stay at home.”
And once again, Ah Wong’s words can be heard from somewhere: “You should grasp the spirit of the rules and to take precautions.”
She also added, “Ps I know they make us stay at hotels to support the economy and because some people will actually break the rules and leave their home. It’s just annoying and depressing for someone like me who doesn’t actually break rules.”
And we should end this article with Lawrence’s wise words with Dolby Surround 7.1 sound system:
“You should grasp the spirit of the rules and to take precautions. All around you~”
