Netizen Slammed For Sexist Comment Against A Law Undergraduate

Having been a self-proclaimed ‘Surfer of the Net’ for years, I’ve come across many things;

  • Hilarious memes
  • ‘Hilarious’ memes
  • Morbid humour
  • Steven Lim’s charisma
  • Dog videos
  • Cat videos
  • Mosaics
  • More mosaics

Yet, even with the aforementioned plethora to choose from, none stands out as prominently as the 9th category:

Sexist memes.

I mean, let’s face it; how often have you seen memes that go like…

Girl: So I was out on a party that night…

Boy: What’re you doing out so late?

Girl: Why not? I’m 21!

Boy: Precisely. You’re 21; you should be in the kitchen making me a sandwich!

Sure, it does exact a crinkly laugh the first few times, but like repeated screenings of Dumb and Dumber it does get a lil’ stale after a while.

I mean c’mon; how funny can a meme like that get, when you realise that you have a female who practically helped you grow all your life?

Precisely.

But as it is, there will always be that one person who feels a need to interject something ‘witty’ every time around. In the office, it’s yours truly. And over on the Internet, it’s this guy we shall just term ‘CoolkidXXX’.

What happened?

Long story short, it all began on that one fateful day, when a Netizen posted her status on Twitter about her 8-year journey through law school.

Transcript (in case you can’t read):

“I’m feeling a little overwhelmed right now. I can’t believe I survived 8 years of law school. From foundation, to two degrees & a masters degree, I’m finally done. Alhamdulillah.”

Now, if you’re like me, you would probably be reacting this way:

Because damn, that’s some achievement right there.

And the world knew it.

After her tweet was released, Netizens turned up in droves to congratulate her on her achievement.

Which was a really heartwarming moment, considering how hard she must’ve worked for her degrees.

And then it happened

I’m sure you’re all aware of it, but there’s always that one black sheep on a farm that does things differently from the others. I mean sure; it’s cool if it does things differently in a positive way. But as it is, I would say that whatever this ‘black sheep’, also affectionately known as ‘coolkidXXX’, did…

It’s in no way positive.

In case you don’t Melayu, here’s what the tweet reads:

“With all your degrees, I hope you can cook.”

Netizen begin blasting him

If you carefully analysed the tweet, you would’ve realised that it actually garnered a whole 30 likes, a notion that’s somewhat depressing no matter how you look at it.

However, before you lose all faith in humanity, just look at this unwavering wave of support for the degree holder in question.

“He just wanted to feel superior. He knows he can’t be like her,” one Netizen wrote.

“I would just respond by saying that I can afford a chef to cook for me every day,” another said.

And a self-proclaimed colleague of the aspiring lawyer clarified things.

“In reality, she used to cook for her class and even invited people from other classes over (me), to have some of it. Not only is she a great cook but she’s a person with a genuine heart. Men will always bring women out of their league down to protect their ego it’s pathetic.”

Though as one mentioned, it’s a thought that’s synonymous with that of the older generation.

“I got engaged last December, and she is a medical graduate. My aunts, as usual, said that it was of no use if she is successful yet not know how to cook. Mindblown.”

Well, guess it’s just the traditional mindset at work again.

To be sexist or not to be sexist?

I know what you’re thinking. Of course we shouldn’t be sexist anymore, seeing how this is 2019 and women are equal to men in every right.

But then again, it does extend to another point: are sexist jokes out of the equation altogether?

Because if you think about it, just as there are memes about girls, there are memes about guys too. Take, for example, the meme I was producing earlier on.

Girl: So I was out on a party that night…

Boy: What’re you doing out so late?

Girl: Why not? I’m 21!

Boy: Precisely. You’re 21; you should be in the kitchen making me a sandwich!

What you didn’t know, however, is that it wasn’t complete. Here’s the continuation of the meme:

Boy: Precisely. You’re 21; you should be in the kitchen making me a sandwich!

Girl: Excuse me; then what’re you doing out so late every day?

Boy: I’m 21, and I’m a guy. Why not?

Girl: Pretty sure there’s a curfew for guys with a junk size of below 3 inches. And last time I gathered you’re probably around 2.1.

Yeah, it kind of works both ways. And so the best solution?

Just stop it with the memes, and start making slimes instead.

Perfect.
