If you’re a driver with a second-generation in-vehicle unit (IU), you may have used your credit card, EZ-Link cards, or Nets FlashPay cards to pay parking fees when your CashCard was low on money.
It’s convenient and allows proficient procrastinators to avoid topping up their CashCard for some time.
But as some motorists have noticed, certain car parks only recognise the older CashCard as they’ve not adopted the full Electronic Parking System (EPS) yet.
This means that if your CashCard doesn’t have enough funds, you’ll have to undertake the arduous task of getting out of your car and topping up your card.
So, what do you do?
Well, the new Nets Motoring card might be an easy solution.
Nets’ New Motoring Card to “Eventually Replace” All CashCards for Car Park and ERP Fees
This new card will eventually replace the 26-year-old CashCard, which will slowly be phased out of use.
Just like its predecessor, the Nets Motoring card will be used for all electronic road pricing (ERP) and car park charges.
Launched on Monday (22 March), NETS said the card is compliant with the Contactless e-Purse Application (Cepas) standard and “aims to meet the needs of motorists now and in the future”.
From 5 April, the CashCard will only be available at petrol stations and the Nets Customer Service Centre at Central Plaza on Tiong Bahru Road.
The new Nets Motoring card, on the other hand, is now available at petrol stations, convenience stores, and the Nets Customer Service Centre.
It will cost users $10, inclusive of S$5 in stored value.
It can only be used with the second generation of IUs, however, as the first generation, introduced in 1998, is only compatible with CashCards.
These motorists can continue to use their CashCards until the upcoming on-board units (OBUs), which will be installed free-of-charge from the second half of this year, is installed in their vehicles.
Benefits of Nets Motoring Card
The card works in the exact same way as a CashCard, in that you simply insert it into the IU or future OBU for auto-deduction. You can also tap and hold on the card reader at the gantry if auto-deduction fails.
So, what are some benefits of using the new card?
- Convenient top-ups – In addition to ATMs and the NETS FlashPay Reader app, users can also sign up for the Auto Top-Up service and never have to worry about insufficient funds.
- WINK+ Points – Registering your NETS Motoring Card on the WINK+ app will earn you WINK+ points, which can then be converted to e-vouchers for spending at participating retailers.
We’ll have to get the Nets Motoring Card eventually, so why not just get it now?
