For a long time, Singaporeans have been “obsessed” with Japanese culture, whether it’s action figures, Ultraman or just questionable stuff that you’ll never ever let your sister watch.
“Onii-san, what’re you watching?”
“Chin- Chinese calligraphy! Now go along and play with your poke balls already.”

But it seems that like everything else, the tides have changed. And impossible as it sounds…
It might be Japan that’s acting out all the obsessive tendencies now.
Look at that Merlion.
That yellow box looks familiar.
We don’t do normal trees. We do SuperTrees.
And guess what? The trend doesn’t seem to be dying anytime soon, as long-time running manga and animation series Detective Conan…
Is all set to do the same.
And the killer is… Steven Lim!
Or so I imagine the plot to be in the upcoming Detective Conan movie… Detective Conan: The Fist of the Blue Sapphire.

But then again I’m not the one writing the script, so I highly doubt that Singapore’s no.1 superstar will make an actual appearance in the movie.
Although hey; from the looks of it, the primary setting in the movie might actually be based off none other than our lovely homeland.
Just look at that all-familiar sculpture at the back, a figure that’s so Merlion-y it’s probably more recognisable than the actual prototype.
And then we have the infinity pool, in which a couple appears ready to have some good ol’ sexy time.
“HEY THIS IS A CHILDREN-FRIENDLY WEBSITE. TONE THINGS DOWN,” the editor roared.

“What? Gardening can be sexy too!”
Anyways, moving on. If there’s any indicator that Singapore will be the primary basis in the movie…
It would be this.
Unbelievable as it sounds, the victim might actually be the indomitable… Merlion.
What’ve you done Steven Lim Kaito Kid?
You can watch the entire trailer down below. Take note that it’s filled with like 99% Singapore references.

Brief background
In case you’ve no idea who Detective Conan is, here’s a not-so-brief synopsis accompanied by a headshot:
Jimmy Kudo is a high school detective who sometimes works with the police to solve cases.
During an investigation, he is attacked by members of a crime syndicate known as the Black Organization.

They force him to ingest an experimental poison, but instead of killing him, the poison transforms him into a child.
Adopting the pseudonym Conan Edogawa and keeping his true identity a secret, Kudo lives with his childhood friend Rachel Moore (Ran Mori) and her father Richard (Kogoro Mori), who is a private detective.
Throughout the series, he tags along on Richard’s cases, but when he is able to solve one, he uses a tranquillizer needle to put Richard to sleep and impersonates his voice using a voice changer to reveal the solution to the case.
(Okay, all these words are from Wikipedia. But as the saying goes, “Wikipedia is your best friend when you can’t hit your word count”.)
To date, there’ve been 22 movies starring the young dude, and this latest entry would make it the 23rd.

Fitting, considering it’s my actual age this year. And so…
Wait a min…
What if I’m somehow involved in the plot?
“And the killer is…”
Steven Lim looks up and points a finger at me.
“Him.”
NOOOOOOOOOO.
This article has been flagged for being too lame.
