If youโve not lived in a kampong before, good for you: you should be a young fellow whoโs always wondering what the big screen on your living room is.
And if youโve never eaten any chicken rice ball because Meleka is just too far for you, then good for you as well: you should be a young fellow who grew up with bingsu instead of ice-kacang.

Now, if you want to experience what your parents have gone through in the old days of Singapore, when kampongs were plentiful and chicken rice balls were as common as ice balls, then good for you, because Old Chang Kee has a super retro kampong-themed restaurant thatโll bring you back to the 60s.
And itโs so authentic, thereโs even no air-conditioner, so prepare your fan.
OโMy Kampong at Sengkang
Yes, I know: Sengkang is a BTO town with many young couples who most likely havenโt lived in a kampong before.
But Sengkang is also home to a park called Sengkang Riverside Park, a rather high-SES park thatโs just opposite Sengkang Sports Complex.
Opened in 2008, you can reach there via Kupang LRT Station, and according to the NParks website, the park is home to many Instagram-worthy birds like Purple Heron, Little tern and Collared Kingfisher.
But housed within the park is a kampong-themed restaurant called OโMy Kampong, which opened back in December 2018.
So, how kampong is this kampong?
Well, this kampong.

Other than the lack of air-conditioner, the setting is a reminiscence of the 60s, with an old provision shop that even our old fat boss has not seen before.
And for your info, they do sell those tidbits and games. You know, like this game that has since been turned into an app (there is, right?):
But is this restaurant just a vase for Instagram?

Apparently not, because theyโve some goody food, too, and given that itโs established by the folks from Old Chang Kee, you can expect some delicious (and unhealthy) food.
Food Available
The most prominent one would definitely be their chicken rice ball. Take a look at this and donโt tell me youโre still not drooling.
The restaurant has chicken rice, nasi lemak, chicken chop, satay, stew and more โ kind of like a local food court.
But whatโs interesting is its drink: thereโs a Gula Melaka Kopi (sweet die you ah) โ whoโd have thought of that?
If youโre looking to travel back in this time weekend, hereโs the place to be.
