You may have noticed that the Singpass app on your phone has received a little makeover lately.

The new minimalistic logo is Singpass’ first redesigning in 18 years and was launched into effect on 7 Mar.

Apart from a sleek new finish, the rebranding brings a slew of new features and access to a wider range of services to the app.

Here’s everything you need to know about what you can do with our freshly rebranded national authentication system.

Of course, Singpass’ new updates will allow residents greater convenience in utilising everyday services across a range of sectors. Personal information can be easily obtained, and you can sign documents digitally and authorise transactions without having to remember passwords.

The Digital IC was launched in Singpass in September last year as another method of identity verification. So fret not if you’ve forgotten to bring your IC, now you can simply whip out your phone and let it do the work for you.

Do note, however, that you may still need to produce your physical IC under certain circumstances, such as if it is required by law, or if the company requires it for specific transactions.

Needless to say, in this age of technology, concerns over the safety of having a digital identity are bound to arise. To mitigate this, Singpass promises enhanced safety in digital transactions with the use of cryptographic technology.

Singpass users are also given identity certificates by the National Certification Authority for enhanced identity authentication.

Perhaps most importantly, Singpass is committed to ensuring that their services are easily accessible for everyone. By the end of 2021, key transactional pages on the Singpass website and app will be made available in Singapore’s four official languages to facilitate ease of understanding.

In addition, Singpass has also rolled out even more methods of authentication to make digital transactions even easier. Even if you don’t have a smartphone, you will be able to authenticate with ease through One-Time Passwords (OTPs) that will be sent via SMS, or even through scanning your face with Face Verification on web browsers or at physical kiosks.

Here are a few of the specific features of Singpass designed to make your life just that little bit easier:

Sign

  • This feature was launched in November 2020 and enables users to sign documents digitally through Singpass simply by scanning a QR code.

Face Verification

  • This feature allows users to access online services through facial recognition. People without smartphones can also use this feature to access services at physical kiosks.

Verify

  • True to its name, this feature allows people to verify their identities in person, such as at an event registration counter. You will simply have to scan a QR code and agree to have your personal information used without having to present any documents of identification.

Plus, you are able to view your vaccination card on your Singpass after you are vaccinated or show off your O,N and A level results to your boss long after you’ve graduated to assert dominance (Not recommended).
