The second trailer for Detective Pikachu was just released and it is too much to take in, in the best way possible.
In fact, it is the only that is and will forever be running through my mind this week.
Remember the days where we wished Pokemon actually existed?
Our time has come.
Not Just a Pokemon Go Update
Running for over 20 years, the Pokemon Franchise is only expanding in quality and quantity.
I mean, there was the opening of a Safari Zone in Pokemon Go just a few days ago.
But who can forget the little guy perched on Ash Ketchum’s shoulder and goes by the name of Pikachu?
The Face of Pokemon Franchise
At 10 years old till present, I am, and still will forever be sold at ‘Pika, Pika!‘
Except now, this same Pikachu has a deep voice, is addicted to caffeine AND furry.
Weird, but can’t say I hate it.
Voiced by Ryan Reynolds, also the actor for Deadpool, the trailer depicted many scenes starring our little detective.
And that alone reached my daily limit of cuteness. Someone, please get him his espresso.
LUDICOLOOOOOO
First seen in Pokemon Ruby, Ludiculo characteristically has what looks like a sombre (actually a lily pad) and says the next punchline: LUDICULOOOOOOO.
And when your original appearance looks like this, fans were, in short, at shock and most called him an abomination.
Seriously? Don’t say that about my shaggy-hair child.
Catching some Zs…
Welcome to my favourite part of the video.
Not only do we see this cute big guy sleeping, but the scene also pays tribute to the original gameplay, where Snorlax blocks the path of the trainer.
Simply because the guy needs some sleep.
Blend of Badass-ery and Cuteness
On one point I am torn with the maternal instinct to protect Pikachu.
And on the other, I am overwhelmed with how badass Charizard looks in the entire movie.
And of course…
(Other than the fact that Mewtwo looks like pure evil and out to destroy the whatever-verse…)
SO COOL RIGHT???
Pokémon Detective Pikachu
In case you didn’t know, Pokémon Detective Pikachu is the first live-action movie in the popular franchise about the powerful creatures and their human trainers.
Below is the summary of the movie:
In the Pokémon universe, Tim Goodman is a former Pokémon Trainer and the son of prominent Ryme City detective Harry Goodman.
Tim arrives in Ryme City learns that shortly after sending the ticket to Tim, his father mysteriously disappeared while working a case.
Staying at his father’s place until Harry is found, Tim is surprised to meet a Pikachu he can understand (voiced by Ryan Reynolds). However, Pikachu is suffering from a severe case of amnesia, and the two must work together to find out what happened to Harry.
While searching for clues across the city, they meet a reporter named Lucy Stevens, who is also trying to find out what happened to Harry.
Their clues lead to an underground fighting ring, accompanied by a man named Sebastian who owns a Charizard, a Mr Mime that may know some information they need, and a plot that threatens the Pokémon universe.
This is not something to be missed.
No matter how old you are.
So if you’re like the 36-year-old with no kids, be sure to mark this date down on your calendar: 09 May 2019.
That’s when this awesome movie is going to come to Singapore’s cinemas.
Here, you can watch the trailer for yourself while waiting (impatiently) for the movie:
And if you’re here just for Snorlax, it’s sleeping at 0:39.
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
