We’ve all made silly choices when we were younger.
Perhaps we acted out on a whim and accidentally said something we shouldn’t have, or we may have been a little rebellious towards our parents.
Though in some cases, there are a few teenagers who take it too far.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic Student Accused of Arming Self With Knife to Rob Woman of $40
And today’s (7 Apr) case is one of them if said teenager is rightfully convicted of the crime.
The Straits Times reported that a Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) student has been accused of armed robbery last year.
He allegedly had a knife to try and rob a woman of S$40.
Yep, just S$40.
The case supposedly happened at a Lengkong Tiga block of flats, near Jalan Kembangan, at around 1:00am on 3 Octover 2020.
This was roughly a month before the student turned 18.
Since he was 17 during the alleged crime, he cannot be named under the Children and Young Persons Act, which covers individuals below 18 years of age.
NP said that the boy is still currently a student at the school.
A spokesman also said that such actions were not tolerated and that the school would take action against such individuals.
“We have extended counselling support to the student and are unable to comment further as the case is before the courts.”
Charged For the Crime
The student was charged with the crime earlier in the year.
In the documents, it was noted that he allegedly put the woman “in fear of death”.
A S$15,000 bail has been set and the case has been adjourned to 21 April 2021.
For committing armed robbery between 7:00pm and 7:00am, he could be jailed for up to 14 years and ordered to receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Wait, the timing of the crime can affect the punishment?
If that thought crossed your mind, then yes, it is a very real law here in Singapore.
Teens Committing Crimes
The phrase “young, wild, and reckless” might refer to the mistakes we make in our youth.
But if those mistakes are crimes, then you’ll still have to pay the price.
We recently reported on how three teenagers allegedly stole a motorcycle from a car park in Sengkang.
The police had received a report at around 9:25am on 26 March 2021 that a motorcycle was stolen at a car park along Sengkang East Way.
Two girls, aged 14 and 15, as well as an 18-year-old male, were caught on 29 March 2021.
The vehicle was also recovered.
The 18-year-old male has been charged in court on 31 March for the theft of a motor vehicle with common intention.
Meanwhile, investigations into the other two are ongoing.
