Night Club Manager Who Raped Unconscious Woman After Being Egged on By Friends to be Jailed and Caned

There are a few things you can blame peer pressure on. This includes drinking, smoking, and even dating.

But can you really blame your friends for pressurizing you into raping someone?

Well, it sounds ludicrous, but that’s exactly what one 40-year-old Singaporean did.

Night Club Manager Raped Woman After Being Egged on By Friends

After midnight on 17 September 2018, Yap Chun Chieh and four acquaintances went to Club V5 Tycoon at Ming Arcade, where Yap worked as a manager and bouncer.

The four men in Yap’s group included:

• Tay Boon Huat, 28, who had booked a chalet room in D’Resort at Downtown East from 17 to 18 Sept for his friends from the nightclub
• Yong Chun Hong, 31, also a manager and bouncer at the club
• Gan Soon Chai, 35, a cashier at the club
• Yeo We Chieng, 42

At the time, the victim and her friends were at the club.

At one point, the victim’s friends got into an argument with another group outside the club, and left her behind when the argument was resolved.

She then had more drinks with Tay, Yong, and Yeo.

Intoxicated to the point where she was unconscious, the men took her to the chalet at around 7:00am in Yeo’s car.  All of them except Yeo molested her on the way to the chalet.

At the chalet, Yap brought the unconscious victim to one of the rooms and placed her on a queen-sized bed.

Yong and Tay then egged Yap into raping the unconscious woman, saying something along the lines of: “The woman is already lying here and you still are not having sex with her. What are you waiting for?”

Tay molested the victim and took off her clothes. Yong also molested her before going outside to the barbecue area.

Yap then raped the woman. Tay also sexually assaulted her.

Unbeknownst to Tay, Gan began filming the assault when he joined in. He only stopped when Tay found out.

Tay then tried to delete it from Gan’s phone and thought they had succeeded, but the video remained on the phone.

Took Her to a Hotel & Molested Her

The 40-year-old wasn’t done yet, though.

The next morning, Yap helped the victim dress and tried to take her home in a taxi, but she could not be roused when they reached her place.

So, Yap decided to take the victim to the nearest hotel – Hotel 81 Premier Star at Geylang — to sleep.

But of course, he also molested her while she slept.

The woman only regained consciousness at around 7:00pm and was shocked to find herself in a hotel room with a stranger.

The pair left after the victim paid for the stay and left each other.

The victim felt something was wrong but did not lodge a police report because she was depressed and unsure of what to do.

The next night, she returned to the same nightclub to meet a friend and saw Yap. She didn’t confront him, however, as she wanted to forget the incident.

It was only a week later when she visited the same club to drink with her friends that she learned the truth after confronting Yap.

He told her everything, apologised, and said nothing happened in the Hotel 81 room.

She asked why he had done such a thing, and he apologised, saying he knew it was wrong.

When she told her mother about what happened, she urged her daughter to make a police report, which she later did.

Jailed 12 Years

For his multiple offences, Yap was on Monday (29 Mar) sentenced to jail for 12 years and three months, and given 10 strokes of the cane.

Tay was given 10 years and three months in jail and five strokes of the cane, while Gan, who filmed the act, was in 2019 jailed one year and three months, and fined S$20,800.

Yeo, the driver, was not prosecuted.

For rape, Yap could have been imprisoned for up to 20 years and fined or caned.
