For some reason, despite the heavy punishments known to be meted out to offenders, drug-related offences continue to plague our city-state.
Offenders range from the young to old across gender and occupation – and in this case, involves a former Ninja Van delivery driver – yes, that same driver that may have delivered your Shopee package once.
Here are more details about the case.

Pleaded Guilty to Three Charges
On 3 February 2025, former Ninja Van delivery driver, 40-year-old Ng Soon Kiat, was sentenced to 14-and-a-half years of jail and 13 strokes of the cane.
It turns out that aside from delivering drugs, the former delivery man was also charged for other offences. He pleaded guilty in the High Court to three charges:
- Trafficking in not less than 166.99g of methamphetamine
- Rioting
- Drink driving
He was also banned from driving for 34 months and fined S$6,000.
Five other charges, including four related to being a secret society member, were considered during sentencing.
Worked for a Singaporean Who Worked for a Malaysian Drug Supplier
According to Ng, he started working for another Singaporean, 35-year-old Lim Jun Ren, in August 2020, who was also employed as a GrabFood delivery driver back then.
In turn, Lim allegedly worked for a Malaysian drug supplier under the alias “Ah Cute”. The Singaporean arranged for drug collections from Malaysian lorries in Singapore, the repacking of these drugs, and parcel deliveries.
Foiled by Mobile Phone Notifications
Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers seized Lim in Boon Lay Drive and obtained two mobile phones from him on 8 September 2020.
One officer discovered a notification on one of the phones indicating that one item was ready for collection at a SingPost POPStation locker at Fajar Shopping Centre in Bukit Panjang. Investigations later revealed that the number belonged to Ng.

A Singapore Post staff unlocked the locker for CNB officers on 14 September 2020, revealing a sealed packet containing four packets of crystal methamphetamine.
Needless to say, Ng was arrested at his home later that day.
Paid Between S$50 and S$80 Per Delivery
According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Natalie Chu, Ng would be paid between S$50 and S$80 for each delivery of a parcel containing drugs at POPStation kiosks.
On 8 September 2020, Ng delivered the parcel to the locker, as instructed by Lim.
It also turned out that Ng had committed the drug trafficking offence while he was out on police bail for rioting and drink-driving offences committed before.

Ng will be tried together with Lim.
