There’s no question about it now: the tightened measures of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) have worked.
In the past week, the number of new community cases has gone down to 526 from 835 in the past week.
And the number of new unlinked community infections, while still high, has also decreased from 261 cases in the week before to 149 cases in the past week.
What’s more, only one new COVID-19 cluster was reported yesterday, a much lower number than we’ve seen in the past week.
New Cluster Formed in an NKF Dialysis Centre
The new cluster formed in National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Dialysis Centre, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).
The cluster was identified at its Sakyadhita branch, which is located at 19 Upper Boon Keng Rd.
With one more case added to it yesterday, the cluster now has three infections in total.
Besides that, two more cases were linked to the Jurong Fishery Port/ Hong Lim Market & Food Centre cluster, which now has a total of 1,148 cases. It remains our biggest active cluster.
Eight more cases were also added to the cluster at Westlite Juniper Dormitory, bringing its total to 39 infections.
69 New Locally Transmitted Cases
69 new locally transmitted cases were reported yesterday, of whom 20 are unlinked.
39 are linked to previous cases, and were already quarantined. Another ten, also linked to previous cases, were detected through surveillance.
In addition, there were three imported cases, all of whom had already been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival here.
527 Cases in Hospital; 10 in ICU
At the moment, there are 527 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
35 severe cases require oxygen supplementation, and ten are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Seven of these 45 cases have been fully vaccinated; five of them require oxygen supplementation while two need intensive care as they have underlying medical conditions.
34 of them are patients above 60 who have fallen very ill. Among them, six are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination Progress: 70%
Much like saving progress on an incredibly slow game, our vaccination rate is slowly but consistently moving up.
As of Sunday (8 Aug), 70% of our population has been fully vaccinated under the national vaccination programme, while 79% has received at least one dose.
Individuals are considered fully vaccinated if they received two doses or recovered from COVID-19 and took one dose, MOH said.
Additionally, 131,497 doses of the Sinovac vaccine have been administered, covering 81,709 individuals.
