Many of us have probably been checking our bank accounts daily to see if we’ve received our GST vouchers. But even if you’re not eligible to receive a GST voucher, you can still save on GST by dining at Putien — all Putien restaurants will now be absorbing GST and service fee charges.
Here’s why they decided to do it.
No GST or Service Fee Charges in All Putien Restaurants Islandwide
From 20 August onwards, restaurant chain Putien will be absorbing all GST and service fee charges across all its restaurants islandwide.
Yes, you read that right. You can now walk into any of the 19 Putien outlets and enjoy their Fujian cuisine without having to pay that pesky 10% service charge and 9% GST.
Even the Uncle Fong Hot Pot Restaurant outlets at Suntec City and Great World, as well as Sam Leong St Chicken Rice — all of which are under Putien — will be absorbing the GST and service fee charges.
And if you’re sceptical of the GST and service fee charges absorption, fret not — Fong Chi Chung, the founder and chairman of Putien Group, has confirmed that this is not a temporary promotion. It’s here to stay.
Mr Fong also assured that the prices of menu items will not change, nor will portions shrink, to make up for the GST and service fee absorption.
Wah. Spoil market sia.
The reason behind Putien’s move is also a heartwarming one. According to Mr Fong, the move was made to return the support that Singaporeans have given the home-grown brand.
“With 19 Putien outlets, our scale and purchasing power have increased compared with when we had just one outlet. Over all these years, we have also learnt to control and manage our costs better. Now, we are in a position to return the support that Singaporeans have given to us,” Mr Fong added.
So, if you’re looking for a Chinese restaurant to bring your family and friends to in the future, Putien appears to be a good choice lah.
GST and Service Fee Absorption Announcement Delayed Due to Bytedance Food Poisoning Incident
Some of you might be thinking: “But wasn’t Putien implicated in the recent Bytedance food poisoning incident? This one is a marketing stunt, is it?”
Well, as it turns out, plans to announce the GST and service fee absorption have been in place even before the Bytedance food poisoning incident. In fact, plans for this announcement were in place as early as January this year, and the announcement was actually delayed as a result of the Bytedance food poisoning incident.
And if you’re sceptical about Putien’s food safety after the Bytedance food poisoning incident, the Putien chairman only has one thing to say: “There are always challenges in this sector. In all our meetings, we are picking on our mistakes and finding ways to improve our service and food.”
The 56-year-old also shared that sales and customer traffic flow at Putien Group’s restaurants have already returned to normal.
In any case, food hygiene officers at the Putien catering kitchen which was implicated in the food poisoning incident had to attend a food safety boot camp of sorts, including having to re-attend and pass the Workforce Skills Qualification Conduct food and beverage hygiene audit course. The food should actually be even safer now lah.
So, what are you waiting for? Head down to any Putien outlet and enjoy a meal for nett price now!
